1. Handprint Flag

Get your paints out, it’s time to express patriotism through art! No need for brushes, as we will use our hands to paint the Indian tricolour flag. You will need the right shades of orange, green and blue paint. Take a white chart paper and divide it into three sections with a lightly drawn line. Paint your palms orange and press your palm prints on the top section of the paper. Repeat the same on the bottom section with green paint. To create the Ashok Chakra, paint your palms blue and place your palm impressions by going around like the hands of a clock. Erase the pencil lines and your beautiful chart is ready for display!       

2. Tricolour Recipe

Let’s get creative and patriotic in the kitchen! This activity is great fun for children of all ages. Younger kids can arrange salads or fruits in the design of the tricolour. Older kids can try their hands at frosting a cake with three colours. And, children ready to try some more elaborate recipes can try a rice arrangement with portions of Schezwan rice, plain rice and coriander rice, or a pasta serving with a tomato-based sauce, cheesy sauce and pesto sauce to get the all the three colours on a single serving dish. Prepare a badge that you can pin up on your shirt to show your love and pride for India. You will need a card paper cut into a small circle for the base of your badge. Cut out small strips of orange, green and white ribbon. Fold the ribbons in half. Paste the orange ribbons along the edge of the circle. Now, leave some gap and start pasting the white ribbon a little below the orange. In the innermost circle, paste the green ribbons. In the space left in the centre, write down your name. In the following decades, civil societies and political parties in India gradually became strong, demanding self rule or Swaraj. A long battle of non violence and non cooperation ensued, finally resulting in India achieving independence on 15 th August 1947.

Independence was gained after nearly two centuries of subjugation under, firstly, the East India company and secondly the British Crown. It was a period of unethical suppression and tremendous exploitation of our resources at the hands of Britishers.

Kingdoms were forcefully occupied, kings were dethroned and punished for no apparent reason, farmers and small traders were made vulnerable by imposing new tax laws. The whole nation had felt the pain of subjugation, for every moment under the Crown. It was therefore a big achievement and a reason to celebrate when independence was finally gained on 15 th August 1947.

The significance of the day is defined by the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and other countrymen, in the struggle for independence. Millions of Indians have lost their lives in the freedom fight. The day reminds us to commemorate those who have sacrificed their all to make us breathe in freedom.

Bipin Chandra Pal an outstanding Journalist of Bengal wrote in papers like ‘New India’ and ‘Bandematram’ which writings worked like a rousing current on the minds of the young people.

Certain internal and external factors also worked to arouse the national consciousness and national pride among the people, particularly certain impolite and autocratic steps taken by the Viceroy Lord Curzon. De Mello a writer of repute rightly wrote ‘Perhaps no single British administrator in India gave a greater impetus to the national movement than Lord Curzon with his ill-disguised contempt for the Indian National Congress’.

In the meantime there rose up a band of extremists like Chandra Shekhar Azad, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Ashfaqullah, and some others who believed in the extreme way of the bomb with which movement the moderates did not agree. The extremists, though failed in their activities, still helped in arousing the sentiments of the masses. The Jalianawala massacre in 1919 added fuel to the fire.

By this time Lai, Bal and Pal had left the scene and Mahatma Gandhi had taken up the leadership. His non-cooperation movement against the British government in 1920, his ‘Dandi March’ The Salt Satyagrah and thereafter many more movements carried on the freedom movement still further. The British government failed to satisfy the aspirations for full independence of the country but in spite of making efforts of some settlement, Gandhi turned from the path of cooperation and moderation to complete non-cooperation with the British Government. All efforts have failed Gandhi, was led to make the historic announcement of ‘Quit India’ movement in 1942 and gave the call for ‘Do or die’.

Anchoring Script for Independence Day

Anchor 1: Good morning to the honourable Chief Guest, Respected Principal Mam/Sir, teachers, and my dear friends. I (student name), of class _____, am delighted to welcome you all to an extremely special school morning assembly on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day.

Achor 2: And I’m (student name). It is a pleasure to join you all as we gather here to pay our tributes to the bravery and sacrifices of Indian freedom fighters. They dedicated their lives to granting the gift of freedom to future generations. 

Anchor 1 : You are right (Anchor 1 name). The occasion of Independence Day is not just a holiday. Instead, it is a celebration of our culture, values, and history that binds us together with a patriotic spirit. So, let’s start the festivities by seeking the blessings of the almighty. 

Anchor 2: I invite (student name) to kindly come on the stage and lead us in the prayer. 

[After the prayer]

Flag Hoisting Ceremony 

Achor 2: Thank you (student name). Moving forward, it is time for one of the most important events of the day, the flag-hoisting ceremony. I would like to request the chief guest of our cultural program and all the dignitaries to come onto the stage and unfurl the National flag. 

Anchor 1: Now, I would like to request all the students and teachers to stand and salute the National Flag. Let’s sing the National Anthem with pride and respect. 

[National Anthem ends]

Anchor 2: Thank you, everyone. Please take your seats. As we raise the flag high, let’s take a moment to remember the stories of courageous freedom fighters and our nation’s fight for independence. 

Chief Guest Speech

Anchor 1 : I now invite our honourable chief guest to address us with a speech.

Student Speech and Cultural Performances 

Anchor 2: The struggles, hardships, and courageous dedication of our freedom fighters allow us to live a life of freedom today. The significance this day holds for the people of India cannot be explained in words alone. To shed more light, I would now like to invite on stage (student name) from class ___ to deliver a speech. 

Thank you (student name). That was indeed a heart-touching speech. As we continue with our celebrations of Independence Day, let us now welcome our dance performers from Class 9 and Class 10 with a huge round of applause. 

[Dance performance ends]

Anchor 1: Wow, that was a brilliant performance. The energy was truly contagious. Let’s keep our spirits high and energy flowing. Next up, we have a skit to demonstrate the Indian freedom struggle. Please welcome students of ____ with a big cheer to take us back into the historical chapters of India.

Anchor 2: It was truly inspiring. Our students beautifully illustrated the journey of Mother India to freedom. 

Anchor 1: Yes, indeed. Next up, we have a brain teaser session for you all. Let’s test our knowledge with a fun quiz on India’s Independence Day. We have (student name) from class ___ as our quiz master to conduct the quiz. Let’s see who knows our country the best.

Donald J. Trump and his allies are planning a sweeping expansion of presidential power over the machinery of government if voters return him to the White House in 2025, reshaping the structure of the executive branch to concentrate far greater authority directly in his hands.

Their plans to centralize more power in the Oval Office stretch far beyond the former president’s recent remarks that he would order a criminal investigation into his political rival, President Biden, signaling his intent to end the post-Watergate norm of Justice Department independence from White House political control.

Mr. Trump and his associates have a broader goal: to alter the balance of power by increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government that now operates, by either law or tradition, with any measure of independence from political interference by the White House, according to a review of his campaign policy proposals and interviews with people close to him.

Mr. Trump intends to bring independent agencies — like the Federal Communications Commission, which makes and enforces rules for television and internet companies, and the Federal Trade Commission, which enforces various antitrust and other consumer protection rules against businesses — under direct presidential control.

He wants to revive the practice of “impounding” funds, refusing to spend money Congress has appropriated for programs a president doesn’t like — a tactic that lawmakers banned under President Richard Nixon.

He intends to strip employment protections from tens of thousands of career civil servants, making it easier to replace them if they are deemed obstacles to his agenda. And he plans to scour the intelligence agencies, the State Department and the defense bureaucracies to remove officials he has vilified as “the sick political class that hates our country.”
