Honest Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Review (2024)

One of Disney’s three All-Star resorts is Disney’s All-Star Movies .

In this All-Star Movies review, we’re digging deep into this well-themed and well-presented value resort that has fantastic room and adorable theming.

Often, Disney’s All-Star resorts are regarded as some of the least liked on Disney property among Disney fans.

They are the oldest value resorts, opened in the 90s, and over the years they began to show their wear and tear.

However, a refurbishment has breathed some new life into the Disney All-Star Movies resort rooms, and while the theming is still a bit outdated ( Mighty Ducks and Herbie the Love Bug , anyone?), this is a top notch Disney resort for anyone wanting a bargain price and some larger than life theming.

We also have a guide to the best Disney All-Star resorts to keep your options open.

Always check prices on Undercover Tourist here for authentic discounted tickets!

What to Pack for your All-Star Movies Stay

Packing for your stay at All-Star Movies is made easier with my list of what to bring to Disney World , including the best ponchos for Disney World , the best backpack for Disney World , the best shoes for Disney World and the best cooling towels for Disney World.

I also always like to make sure I have a mesh bag for dirty clothes in a hotel room like this one , a safety device like this one to put up against the door at night, and a toiletry travel bag like this one that has so many separate compartments to help keep things organized.

You’ll also want to bring flip flops to go down to the pool (try these adorable Disney ones ) and swimsuits for the family – Disney pools are heated even in the winter, so while you won’t find Floridians in them in January, certainly you’ll find people from all over the world wondering why the Floridians are being such babies!

Also, this adorable Disney tee is perfect and there are plenty more to shop on Etsy (my favorite place for cute Disney shirts for men, women, and kids).

Disney All-Star Movies Resort Theming and Grounds Review

All-Star Movies, like all of Disney’s value resorts, specializes in over-the-top Disney theming.

You won’t be confused as to where you’re staying when you’re here, as everything is set up so that it’s all Disney, all the time.

Gigantic Fantasia broom at Disney All-Star Movies

This, contrasted with resorts like the Beach Club where there is lots of theming, but very little Disney theming, is perfect for families with kids who want to feel in the Disney magic.

The layout of All-Star Movies has a main lobby that contains the food court and check-in desks, and then separate buildings that surround this main building.

Large statue at Disney All Star-Movies resort

There are three to four buildings in the other sections, all with rooms with doors that open to the outside world – no interior hallways here.

Disney All-Star Movies resort Herbie area

The resort themes are Toy Story, the Mighty Ducks, Herbie the Love Bug, Fantastia, and 101 Dalmatians.

Your kids might have only heard of Toy Story, but 90s Disney fans will know exactly what each theme is all about.

In fact, for some people, it’s an awesome throwback to be able to stay in a Mighty Ducks themed room!

Disney All Star Movies resort Toy Story area with Buzz Lightyear and Rex

Around each building is some sort of décor related to the theme – dog bones around the 101 Dalmatians buildings, for instance, or hockey pucks near the Mighty Ducks.

In addition, you’ve got some fantastic figurines that stand stories tall, including a giant Buzz Lightyear, huge hockey sticks, and giant Dalmatians.

Everything can be explored, sometimes stood on or sat in, and definitely touched.

Nothing is off-limits in terms of discovering the world around this resort and you certainly don’t have to worry about breaking anything!

This makes All-Star Movies one of the best Disney resorts for kids , full stop.

I’ll discuss the pools, lobby, and food court in separate sections, but suffice it to say that All-Star Movies is thoroughly Disney movie based the whole way through, with attention to detail in all areas that make you feel as if you’re either about to direct a Blockbuster film or you’re starring in one.

🚌Not renting a car in Orlando?

My favorite shuttle to get from the Orlando airport directly to Disney World is this one with a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating.

All-Star Movies Lobby Review

The lobby and check-in area is a grand, large building with plenty of check-in desks so you’re never waiting for too long.

All-Star Movies, like other values, hold quite a few more people than many of the Deluxe resorts, and they’re equipped with the facilities to do so.

Disney All-Star Movie Resort Lobby

There are movie memorabilia displays dotted around the lobby, as well as a kid’s section for them to sit and watch Disney movies while you check in.

I appreciate the tall ceilings and stars plastered all over the walls here, as, again, nothing is subtle!

You step in and there is no mistaking where you are.

The atmosphere is fun and bright and loud and ready for making some magical memories.

All-Star Movies Room Review

The room itself was where All-Star Movies really shined.

The refurbished rooms are similar to those at Pop Century and now being rolled other to other All-Star resorts, in that there is a hardwood floor, one queen bed, one Murphy bed that pulls down into a table, and a separate bathroom that is closed off by a sliding door.

Disney All-Star movies room review bed with desk and chairs

While hardwood in a hotel room isn’t always my favorite as a guest, I think it does go a long way to help the room feel clean and modern.

Disney All-Star movies room review desk and kitchenette area

The decor around the room has been toned down so it still represents the All-Stars and the movies, but it’s not quite so in your face.

Disney All-Star movies resort room review picture of Mickey, Minnie and Donald on the wall

One thing I absolutely love about the new rooms is the giant television on the wall.

When I’m on a Disney vacation, you can bet I’m turning on the Disney channels and the “Must-Do Disney” channel.

They didn’t skimp on the TV size, that’s for sure!

Disney All-Star movies room review TV and kitchenette

The bed was easy enough to change from a table into a bed, and the chairs provided are an excellent quality.

There is also a little kitchenette type area with the fridge, and we found this really nice to be able to unload all of our food and prepare any drinks or sandwiches in the morning.

Disney All-Star movies resort room review kitchenette

The bathroom, too, was sleek and modern – definitely above what I would have expected of a “Value” resort.

Disney All-Star movies bathroom

The dispensers of Disney shampoo and conditioner and body wash are now on the wall instead of in individual bottles, but you used to get less expensive products at value resorts, and now you get Disney’s H2O line which I love.

Disney All-Star movies H2O products

The main thing we fell in love with in the new rooms is that the beds are super comfortable.

You get plenty of pillows, and particularly the main bed that isn’t the Murphy bed is awesomely comfortable.

I slept on the Murphy bed and while it was comfortable, it didn’t quite have the same level of comfort as the main bed. If you’re traveling with kids, definitely give them the Murphy bed!

All-Star Movies Pool Review

All-Star Movies has one main pool, the Fantasia Pool, which is where they hold most of the events and activities throughout the day.

Disney All-Star Movies pool review Fantasia pool

The theming of the pool is super cute, one of the best pools at Disney World , with Fantasia Mickey casting his spell over the water.

I love the curtain effect, and if you’ve got a large group or kids who love to splash around and be loud, this is the pool for you.

Disney All-Star Movies pool review

The second pool is the Mighty Ducks pool, which is considered a quiet pool.

I actually think this is the better themed pool, which an adorable hockey net and scoreboards surrounding the pool.

Disney All-Star Movies pool review Mighty Ducks pool

Of course, this is Disney so “quiet pool” doesn’t mean “adults only” or anything like that, just that there are no regular poolside activities held here and it is right in the middle of quite a few rooms, so the same level of noise as the Fantasia Pool isn’t encouraged.

Each pool has showers and lockers nearby, and you can use children’s lifejackets for your little ones who you want to be extra secure in the water.

Neither pool has a slide or hot tub, which is the same at all Disney value resorts.

All-Star Movies Food Court Review

When it comes to the food at All-Star Movies, you have one option: the World Premiere Food Court.

Disney World All Star Movies Resort Food Court sign

We’ve eaten at a lot of Disney food courts over the years, and we’re happy to say that this is one of the better ones.

Particularly in recent years, they’ve improved the food offerings and really turned this into a perfectly good place to grab a meal before or after you’re at the parks.

The one at Art of Animation is still the best of the Value resorts, but this is a good option for people staying on-site as well.

Disney World All Star Movies Resort Food Court

I enjoy the large size of this food court, as it can create a bit of a chaotic atmosphere, but you don’t look for a place to sit as much as you do at some of the smaller food courts.

Disney World All Star Movies Resort Food Court baked goods

One thing to note, as well, is that there is a microwave for guest use, so you can heat up anything you need for your baby or if you’ve brought your own food or have leftovers from elsewhere on property.

All-Star Movies Amenities Review

Talking about the “amenities” at a Disney value resort is a bit of an odd thing, as typically we think of amenities as, say, a spa.

All-Star Movies doesn’t have that level of amenities, but it does have the pools, a concierge service to help with luggage and luggage delivery, a large gift shop, laundry facilties, pool showers, a playground, and an arcade.

All Star Movies gift shop

All-Star Movies Activities Review

With all of the families and children running around, All-Star Movies knows that it needs to put on a spectacular range of activities and it has a full activity sheet you can pick up at the front desk.

All-Star Movies activities board

For the most part, the activities are centered around the pool and range from trivia games to sing-a-longs to the popular movie nights.

Occasionally there will also be an activity like Disney tie dying or a craft for the kids.

Disney World All-Star Movies resort outdoor cinema

This isn’t a resort where you want to have a “resort only” day as adults, but if you have kids and need a day off, you can definitely find enough things to do if they’re happy in the pool and wandering around the themed outdoor areas of the resort .

All-Star Movies Cast Member Review

We only came into contact with cast members at All-Star Movies briefly, once at check-in and once at the gift shop.

The nature of a value resort does tend to mean you don’t have as personal of interactions as you would in a smaller resort, but we found all cast members to be perfectly friendly and helpful.

No negative cast member reviews to report here, like when we went to Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort and had a hard time with the cast member at check-in.

Disney All-Star Movies Transportation Review

Another aspect of paying for a value resort is that you’re not paying the premium for any other kind of transportation to the parks or Disney Springs besides buses.

There are no monorails, Skyliner, boats, or magic carpets that are going to take you where you need to go.

All-Star Movies review bus transportation area with big red "All-Star Movies" sign

For many people, this is fine.

We didn’t have a problem with Disney buses during our stay, and we found that at many places, All-Star Movies got its own bus rather than having to share with the other All-Star resorts, particularly during peak times.

All-Star Movies review bus transportation area

If you’re keeping track, Disney’s All-Star Movies resort is closest to Animal Kingdom, so this bus should take you very little time at all.

All-Star Movies review bus transportation times display

When it comes to going elsewhere on property, you can of course use the bus or order yourself an Uber, Lyft, or Minnie Van if you want a private ride.

Overall Disney All-Star Movies Resort Review

As I mentioned in the beginning of this review, the All-Stars get a bad rap among Disney fans sometimes, and I think it’s undeserved.

This resort has comfortable rooms, free access to the parks via bus (no paying for Ubers or renting a car), a fantastic food court, and great theming.

If you’re staying at All-Star Movies resort, you’re going to have a great time and we’d love to hear how it was!

Disney’s All Star Movies Resort Review

all star movie reviews

All Star Movies Resort is a Walt Disney World hotel in the “Value Resort” category that offers budget accommodations while still offering on-site Disney perks such as Extra Magic Hours, Disney’s Magical Express, and Disney transportation. In this hotel review, we’ll share photos from our stays at All Star Movies, thoughts on whether you should consider it if you’re weighing the Value Resorts, and offer some general planning info about the hotel.

Disney’s Value Resorts are quite divisive. Some people love them, some people love to hate them. Some people think they are tacky with poorly-made rooms, some people think they offer a cheap alternative to Deluxe resorts while still allowing Guests to take full advantage of on-property benefits. Although the Value Resorts are far from our favorite resorts, Sarah and I come down on the side of liking the Value Resorts–for what they are.

April 2018 Update: Room refurbishments have started and will occur in building by building phases (building 10 is currently down and will be the first finished, likely in late May or early June 2018) at All Star Movies to refurbish all rooms through November 2018. This will be a dramatic redesign strikingly similar to the updated rooms at Pop Century Resort , with only minor thematic flourishes to differentiate the rooms. This refurbishment should be fairly unintrusive to guests staying at All Star Movies, and we would not recommend altering your vacation plans as a result.

We think the divisive nature of the Value Resorts comes down to the fundamental question as to the nature of your visit. If you’re taking a commando-style, “the room is only for sleeping” trip during which you want to be in the parks as much as possible, a sub-$100 night room that offers perks such as the Disney transportation system and Extra Magic Hours is a great idea.

Conversely, if your resort is a large aspect of you vacation and you plan on spending a lot of time there, you may not think to highly of the Value Resorts. From my experience, this goes for all of the Value Resorts, especially the three All Star Resorts, which differ from one another little besides in theme.

We have stayed at each of Walt Disney World’s Value Resorts: Art of Animation, Pop Century, All Star Sports, All Star Music, and All Star Movies. Essentially, they are basic accommodations that are stylized with Disney icons. Sometimes we are traveling to Walt Disney World on a budget and the parks are a priority. The Value Resorts work well when that’s the case. If that’s the nature of our trip, we actually prefer saving money by staying at the Value Resorts since we won’t be in the hotel much, anyway. (Plus, I don’t mind what others sneer at as the garish design of the Values.)

I think the Value Resorts get bashed for their design far too frequently. Disney fans often lose sight of something: that a big part of Walt Disney World is captivating the fancy of children. I’m not suggesting everything should be squarely aimed at kids or that all we need kiddie coasters, but I do think the Value Resorts have their place. I know if we would have stayed at them when I was a kid, I likely would have loved exploring them. As an adult, sure, the Polynesian is much more to my liking. But for kids, giant toys and figures of their favorite Disney characters are pretty appealing.

all star movie reviews

With my theoretical thoughts concerning resort tiers in mind, here are my thoughts specific to All Star Movies: it’s an okay resort, but definitely not the best of the Values. Ultimately, I think I’d rank them: Art of Animation, Pop Century, Music, Movies, and Sports. Art of Animation and Pop Century are no-brainers in the #1 and #2 spots.

There’s far less of a difference between any of the All Stars, but we consider Music the best since it seems the ‘freshest’ and tends to have fewer large groups than Sports. For the most part, though, there’s little difference between any of them. Room size, amenities, transportation, location, etc., is all pretty much identical among all of the All Star Resorts at Walt Disney World.

all star movie reviews

Movies is probably the most dated of the three. Even as its World Premiere Food Court now has an updated menu, it never received the large-scale refurbishment the other All Star food courts received.

That, plus the fact that the Mighty Ducks are still heavily showcased, despite no longer being relevant, makes its age really show. If we are looking for the cheapest Value Resort, we usually opt for All Star Music during the Christmas-season, or All Star Sports any other time of the year (being careful to consult the ESPN Wide World of Sports calendar, first). We rarely stay at All Star Movies.

all star movie reviews

Aside from the Mighty Ducks area, you also have sections of All Star Movies that are themed to 101 Dalmatians, Toy Story, Fantasia, and Herbie: The Love Bug. I’m not sure I’d consider Herbie a timeless Disney creation, either, but the rest hold up well. We generally recommend the Fantasia or Toy Story sections to those guests who want to stay at All Star Movies. Both offer the best of location and decor.

Now, let’s take a look inside the rooms…

all star movie reviews

Unfortunately, we don’t have photos of All Star Movies since they were last refurbished. The biggest difference is that the comforters have been removed, and the headboards swapped out.

all star movie reviews

They also no longer have the CRT televisions, and instead have a more streamlined dresser. If you’ve seen the room photos in our All Star Music Review or All Star Sports Review , you know exactly what these rooms now look like.

Just swap out the music or sports poster on the wall for a movies one (well, unless you’re in the Mighty Ducks section…then it’s movies and sports. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!)

all star movie reviews

Okay, let’s take a look at the pools. All Star Movies has two pools. The feature pool is the Fantasia pool, which is located directly behind the Cinema Hall lobby and food court, between the two Fantasia buildings. You could say this is the best “themed” area at All Star Movies. To be honest, it might be the best-themed area at any of the All Star Resorts. It’s pretty cool.

The Fantasia pool features a giant Sorcerer Mickey on a platform with streams of water shooting out from its base…just like you’re on the “set” of Fantasia, ha.

all star movie reviews

The Mighty Ducks section of All Star Movies contains the Duck Pond Pool. This is the resort’s quiet pool area, and is themed to look a like a hockey rink. It includes Goofy in a Mighty Ducks uniform as goaltender, and everything.

If you were not a child of the 1990s, this might be a bit perplexing…Goofy in the jersey of an NHL team based in Anaheim, California? First, shame on you for not seeing the ultimate film trilogy 1990s cinema. Second, in addition to making the movies, Disney used to own the NHL team.

However, Disney sold the Mighty Ducks (now just the Ducks) over a decade ago, and I don’t think anyone under the age of 25 has even seen the movies, so this area now sticks out like a sore thumb. Walt Disney World might as well theme an area of a hotel to Chicken Little.

all star movie reviews

Next up, dining at All Star Movies. The World Premiere Food Court actually isn’t that bad; it has a fairly diverse menu that includes options like the Turkey and Muenster Sandwich and Italian Sandwich, both of which are solid. We do not think it’s as good of a food court as the redone End Zone or Intermission food courts, but it is not bad, either.

Overall, All Star Movies Resort features a fun design-aesthetic that most kids will love, but it definitely isn’t for everyone–especially those on an adults-only Walt Disney World trip who want a relaxing hotel . If you’re reading resort reviews because you want to determine which resort is the “best” at Walt Disney World, All Star Movies definitely is not for you. It’s not even the best Value Resort, or the best intersection of quality and price among the Value Resorts. If you’re looking for a cheap place to stay while you’re at Disney, and you don’t want to rent a car or you want to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours (or both!), All Star Movies is an okay choice. However, even then we can’t help but think you’d probably be better off booking one of the other Value Resorts. Basically, unless your kids are huge Mighty Ducks enthusiasts, look elsewhere.

Can you Tom, or anyone, recommend a way to make the the bad bus service at All Star Movies work for us or tips on how to avoid long waits? We are staying in September and have always stayed at Pop so I am a bit worried about the bus service. Would walking to one of the other all star resorts to get on their bus, or riding back from the park on their bus help? I feel like someone said they did that since the resorts are close.

' src=

Hello Jennifer, the bus situation can be a bit problematic at the All Stars. We made our voices heard when we stayed at Movies in September of 2018. My recommendation would be to consult the My Disney Experience app before leaving your room. They do have the monitors at the bus stop with the bus schedule but you should be able to see the same info on the app.

We stayed at All Star Movies when we were at Disney in Nov/Dec 2018. All I can say is, NEVER AGAIN! That was THE worst hotel stay I’ve ever had!

It started at check-in. While check-in time is officially 3:00, we’ve yet to stay at Disney where we’ve had to wait that long to get our room. At ASM, it wasn’t even ready at 3:00. Or 3:30. It was close to 4:00 by the time I finally got the text saying it was ready.

And I paid for a preferred room (which we got), but requested a room a close to the transportation and lobby as possible. I explained that it’s because I’m handicapped and walking is hard on me. And while I understand that room requests are never guaranteed, I’ve also never had a problem with getting them before. This time, however, our room was about as far from the lobby/transportation as they could put us while still keeping us in a preferred room.

The worst part of the stay, though, was the room. First, the refurbishment got away with the two beds (which is what I paid for). Now it’s one bed and a Murphy bed. Being handicapped, I couldn’t pull the bed down. Someone had to come to the room to do that. Of course, Mousekeeping put it back up the next day. Fortunately, though, Mousekeeping only came to our room that one day, so the bed stayed down the rest of the time we were there (which wasn’t long).

Rooms with a connecting door have very little privacy. We could hear everything that was said in the next room. Word for word. It got bad when they got into a fight and the woman was screaming the F word every other word. I had children with me. And it’s a family resort. After 30 minutes of it, I finally called the front desk. It was so bad, the woman at the front desk could hear it over the phone. She sent security up.

They would have given me a different room, but none were available. It made for a very stressful stay. Needless to say, we didn’t stay long. Two days later we were comfortably settled in at Saratoga Springs. It was SO much quieter and peaceful there!

' src=

I Agree we just stayed week of May 14 2019. Worst experience for Disney. Floors were filthy, had to call 5 times to get packages delivered to our room when we arrived. In March stayed at music and had to recover our luggage at 10pm after being there since 1130 am. Never recd text about room ready til I inquired. Never stay here. Disney needs to reevaluate all stars.

' src=

Bus service was awful. We were at Animal Kingdom and waited for 35 minutes for a bus to come. Doesn’t seem so bad except that Music and Sports both had 2 buses arrive during that time and a 3rd for Sports showed up as the first for Movies got there. We love staying at Pop but decided to give Movies a shot. From now on, Pop is our value resort.

' src=

Don’t count on charging your cell phone. 2 out of 4 outlets in our room are so loose you can’t plug in without it falling out. This must be a hazard. This is just not Disney standard. The lotion was missing. The decor is old and cleanliness questionable. I can’t imagine trying to put kids in that little bathroom to take a bath. Hampton Inn’s are a lot nicer. Mighty Ducks Really???? There are so many Kid friendly Disney movies out there and you choose Mighty Ducks?

' src=

I just came back from staying at the movie resort. The bus service really sucked, they were late (more than 20 minutes) picking up from the park every time. The last time it was 55 minutes from the time I got to the stop till I arrived at the hotel. There was a woman with a small baby that was there 5 minutes longer than me, standing in 93 degree heat. At least they could offer shelter with fans and a place to sit. Going to the park was not a problem, it’s like once you’re there and spent your money they forget about you.

We are currently staying at Movies and I have to agree with the bus issue. We have spent a ton of time waiting for a bus since we arrived. Part of what lends to this is them posting the times by the bus stop. I found myself grumbling more because of that than anything else. On a positive note: the refurbished rooms are a nice upgrade from what they used to be. Better use of space and it’s nice to have queen sized beds now too.

We will be staying at All Star Movies in September. Our mission is more ‘commando’ in nature so the resort problems will not necessarily be a problem for us. But, one thing I heard recently is that you should ask for the ‘secret menu’ at the counter service restaurant. I guess the manager will bring out a brief case (in spy movie fashion) where you will find the secret menu on a View Master. I will be asking for this, as my wife thinks it’s a bit hokie…but heck, it’s Disney! If any of you have successfully tried this, please comment. Thanks!

I wouldn’t recommend staying at All Star Movies presently. Our family stayed there in early January 2018 and they are having issues. For example, we came back from the parks our second night and a plumbing leak in the ceiling had soiled one of the beds. They would never answer the phone at the front desk so one of our party had to go the lobby for help. We had to move buildings and no longer had adjoining rooms. In our rush to pack and move at 10:30pm I left behind an item. Again, no answer at the front desk and I had to march up to the lobby again. They wanted to give me a key and make me walk all the way from one side of the resort to the other to retreive my item. After a firm discussion they agreed to have one of their employees get it and deliver to my new room. Fast forward to next night in new room. A very loud (think jackhammer) noise was emanating from the walls and it was impossible to sleep. Again, phone call to front desk went unanwered. At 11pm I figured out it was coming from water pipes and I crawled under the sink and shut off the water valves and this stopped the noise. Also, the shower would not drain. The staff did not seem at all concerned when we checked out the next morning. The stay for our family at All Star Movies was certainly NOT full of Disney magic. Take your dollars to a different resort!

We ended up adding an extra night to our Thanksgiving Trip by staying a night a the All-Star Movies. This was after 3 nights in an outstanding remodeled Pop-Century 80’s room. Overall we were satisfied with our stay at All Star Movies but it is definitely showing its age in the rooms and the food court. Strangely enough I had requested ANY room except Mighty Ducks and any floor but ground level, yet that is where they put us. I checked in with the front desk before going to the room and the were happy to put me in a 3rd floor Herbie room. Being born in 1977, I am very familiar with Herbie and so I was delighted…the 12 year old didn’t know Mighty Ducks from Herbie, but the 2 year old…well what child doesn’t love a Slug bug. So we were happy with Herbie, which was closer to the amazing Fantasia Pool than the Ducks room would have been. As for the room, clean but tired, and really its just the carpet…I swear that funky Florida Hotel Smell is just the rancid carpet and we are so happy the refreshed Pop rooms are carpet free now. The grounds were really nice though, the theming was somewhat relatable and timeless and the swaying palm trees and what not were really picturesque. We took a chance on the All Star Movies based on price and your review and were ultimately satisfied…when they redo the rooms someday we would definitely consider longer stays here…but for now Po-Century is still our favorite, especially with the new rooms.

Disney All Star Movies Resort Review pin image

When looking for a more affordable Disney World resort, the All Star resorts are as inexpensive as it gets at Disney World. Unless you plan to sleep in a tent.

I recently stayed at the newly renovated All Star Movies resort and wanted to give you my thoughts on the resort as a whole.

All Star Movies Resort is in the Value category of the Disney resorts. This means that it’s one of the cheaper options, but also impacts the types of amenities available.

Make sure you know all the differences between the Disney resort categories before you make your choice.

All Star Movies Resort Theme and Atmosphere

I think it’s no mystery based on the name, but All Star Movies resort is themed after Disney movies!

Some of the movies are definitely more obscure (I’m looking at you, Herbie Love Bug), but there are mainstream movies included as well.

This is a very popular resort for families, so expect a lot of kids running around. Because of this, there’s definitely a higher energy at All Star Movies than you’ll find at a resort like Riviera.

As with all of the Disney value resorts, All Star Movies Resort is littered with larger than life Disney characters. And when I say larger than life, I’m not kidding.

Another thing to note is that all Disney value resorts feature exterior doors for the rooms. You’ll notice in the picture above that there’s an exterior walkway around the building with guest room doors along it.

This means there is one small window that looks directly out onto the hallway and no balcony.

Where is All Star Movies Located?

All Star Movies Resort, along with all of the other All Star resorts, is located in the Animal Kingdom resort area.

This means that the resort is closest to Animal Kingdom, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and Blizzard Beach.

Because of the proximity to ESPN Wide World of Sports, and price, the All Star resorts are popular choices for cheerleading, dance, and Pop Warner conventions.

Here’s the address for All Star Movies Resort:

All Star Movies Resort Rooms

The rooms are scattered throughout the property in five different themed areas. The themed areas are:

  • Mighty Ducks
  • 101 Dalmations

There is of course no guarantee, but if there is a specific theme or location you would prefer, you can always make a request to be put there.

Room Layout

A few years ago Disney began the process of refurbishing the value resorts. With this refurbishment came a complete alteration in not just the decor of the room, but the layout.

Prior to the refurbishment, the rooms included two double beds. I don’t know about you, but I try to avoid sleeping on a double bed whenever possible.

Fortunately for all of us, the rooms now offer sleeping arrangements on 2 queen size beds. But it’s how those beds are situated which I think is the best part.

One of the beds is a standard old queen bed, while the other bed is actually a murphy bed that pulls down from the wall.

When the bed is in the wall, it also gives you a table and 2 chairs to sit at.

This layout gives guests the opportunity to use the room with more flexibility.

Aside from the beds in the main room, there is also a dresser and a separate “kitchen” area. That kitchen area houses a mini-fridge and a coffee maker.

The bathroom is separated from the the room with sliding barn style doors. For convenience, the bathroom is then broken up into two different sections.

The first section has the sink and an open “closet” area. It’s not really a closet in the strictest sense of the word, but it has space for hanging clothes and number cubby style shelves.

The second section contains the toilet and shower/tub combination. This is separated from the sink area with a pocket door.

As far as I’m concerned, this is essential for families so more than one person can get ready at once.

What is the difference between standard and preferred rooms?

Whenever you see rooms at Disney World broken up into standard or preferred categories, it’s typically referring to either location of the room, view, or both.

In the case of All Star Movies Resort, the more conveniently located rooms are considered preferred. This includes Fantasia, Toy Story, and 101 Dalmations.

Conversely, the standard rooms are found in Love Bug and Mighty Ducks.

Within all of these buildings there is a mix of view types, i.e. pool view vs. trees/garden vs. parking lot. Selecting a preferred room doesn’t guarantee you a good view, is just gets you into a building that’s closer to dining and transportation.

All Star Movies Amenities

As is the case with all of the Value category resorts, All Star Movies has what would be considered the “base” amenities of a Disney resort.

Transportation Options at All Star Movies

The only Disney provided transportation option is the bus. The buses take you to all of the Disney parks, water parks, and Disney Springs.

If you want to go to another resort for dining or resort hopping, you need to take a bus to one of the parks or Disney Springs first, then hop on a different bus, monorail, boat, or gondola to get to the resort.

Or you can just call an Uber!

Does All Star Movies share a bus?

This is a fairly important question, and the answer is yes, and no. During high traffic times of the day, think first thing in the morning and when parks close, each of the resorts has it’s own designated bus.

However, it is possible the All Star Resorts share buses during low traffic times of the day.

The All Star Resorts are lined up one right after another along the road. So a shared bus will stop at the first one, then the next, and so on.

Just make sure to pay attention to which resort you’re at before you get off the bus!

All Star Movies Pools

All Star Movies Resort Fantasia pool at night

There are two pools available for all of the All Star Movies guests to use. The feature pool is the Fantasia Pool located in the central courtyard just behind Cinema Hall.

As the name suggests, Fantasia Pool is themed after the Disney movie Fantasia . In fact, Sorcerer Mickey is there spraying water on all the swimmers.

In the Fantasia Pool area there is a smaller kiddie pool in a private area across the walkway.

There are no slides in Fantasia Pool, which is consistent with all pools at value resorts.

The second All Star Movies Resort pool is Duck Pond Pool. This one is located in the Mighty Ducks section of the resort.

As one would expect, Duck Pond Pool is themed after the movie, The Mighty Ducks .

Other than the theming, it’s a pretty basic pool with no water features or slides.

Dining at All Star Movies Resort

There are two dining options at All Star Movies Resort, though only one of them is truly a “dining” option.

World Premiere Food Court is the primary dining option at All Star Movies. As the name implies, this is a food court style dining experience.

There are a wide variety of options available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There might be subtle differences in open hours, but in general, World Premiere Food Court is open from 7a-11:00p.

The menu is actually quite extensive, giving guests options of burgers, pizza, sandwiches, entrees, and more.

As menus are constantly changing, make sure you check the official menu to see what is currently being offered.

For the time being, mobile ordering is encouraged as the primary way to order your food. Simply order from the app, schedule a pick up time, and go on in and get it when it’s ready.

You have the choice of getting a table in the food court, getting a table outside, or taking your meal back to your room.

The second dining option is actually a pool bar. Silver Screen Spirits pool bar is located near the Fantasia Pool.

And really, dining option is a bit of a misnomer as the menu currently doesn’t actually include food. But if you want a drink while lounging at the pool, this is the place to be.

Other Amenities

Along with the primary amenities listed, there are some other amenities offered at the resort. As with all Disney resorts, there is a gift shop at All Star Movies Resort.

The gift shop is called “Double Feature” and carries a mix of souvenirs and potential necessities like water, milk, ibuprofen, sunscreen, and more.

There is a playground tucked away between the Fantasia and Toy Story buildings.

The resort also offers Movies Under the Stars.

As with all resorts, there is a jogging trail for those who want to get in a run or a walk during their vacation. Note, there is no gym.

And of course, what would a family friendly Disney resort be without an arcade?

All Star Movies Resort Review

Now that you know the basics about All Star Movies, let’s take a look at my experience there and my overall thoughts on the resort.

Overall Impressions

I spent 3 nights at All Star Movies on a solo trip. Consequently, it was just me taking up space in that room, not a whole family.

Also, this trip happened to coincide with the opening of Disney’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. This means I was dealing with Defcon level 1 crowds the whole trip.

Despite this, I never felt crowded or overwhelmed when out and about at the resort. In fact, it was pretty darn peaceful.

I was in the Love Bug section, which I specifically requested as I wanted a quieter atmosphere a bit removed from the hub of the resort. Mission was definitely accomplished in that regard.

I found the resort to be pretty walkable. Keep in mind though, I don’t mind walking. The resort is spread out, but I don’t think to an unreasonable degree. If walking is more of an issue for you, definitely book a preferred room.

One of my favorite things about the value resorts is actually character statues you run into everywhere. And I’m not referring to the giant ones.

There are characters interspersed throughout the walking paths of the resort. Kids would love exploring and finding as many of them as they could.

Thoughts on the Pools

Full disclosure, I didn’t go in the pool, I just explored it. That being said, I find the All Star Movies pools to be a bit lackluster.

But really, this is an issue I have with ALL of the value resort pools.

I fully admit, I’m a bit of a pool snob when staying at a Disney resort. This comes from my experiences at the amazing pools found in the Deluxe and Moderate resorts. They aren’t just themed, they are over the top themed.

And they have slides, which ups the fun factor considerably.

But would a child who has no comparison of the other options care? No, they absolutely wouldn’t. They’re probably just happy to go for a swim.

Thoughts on Dining

There are no sit down restaurants at value resorts. This isn’t a bad thing, I just want you to know this.

Really, World Premiere Food Court meets your needs when you need a meal at the resort. The truly vast array of choices makes this possible.

The food quality is good. It won’t knock your socks off, but it’s good. When you just need to grab a quick meal before or after the parks, it fits the bill.

Thoughts on Transportation

Let’s talk about transportation. The fact that buses are the only option is a big negative. Let’s face it, most other transportation options are easier.

When a resort has multiple to choose from, it helps spread everyone out.

And let’s not forget about possibly sharing a bus with the other All Star resorts. That certainly add some time on to your ride.

I think my experience with the All Star Movie buses is an unfair comparison. First, the other All Star resorts were closed so there was no chance of a shared bus.

Second, because of the extremely crowded nature of that weekend, Disney was in top form with buses. They even hired charter buses to increase quantity of buses.

I don’t think I ever waited terribly long for a bus. At most, maybe 15-20 minutes at the end of the day to return to the resort. But to leave the resort in the morning, I don’t think I waited 5 minutes.

Truly, this is abnormal. You need to assume a 15-20 minute wait every time you want to get a bus. Sometimes, even longer.

All Star Movies Room Review

The room quality and layout is an important consideration in any hotel stay. So what did I think about my All Star Movies Resort room?

Frankly, I’m a huge fan of this redesign. Due to a previous stay at Pop Century Resort , I already knew how much I love it. I was not disappointed at All Star Movies.

The decor itself is simple but the Disney touches really help give it life. There’s just enough to make it clear you are staying at a Disney World resort without being overbearing.

Artwork above bed at All Star movies resort features Mickey, Minnie, and Donald

I think the changes make this room much more functional. Just the upgrade from double beds to queen beds is essential!

I love that the second bed is a drop down murphy bed. Guests have so much flexibility. Since I was on a solo trip, I only pulled it down to take pictures. The rest of the time it was up, giving me so much space and the table and chairs.

The murphy bed is easy to pull down and put back up. Using it is pretty self explanatory. For families of 3 and 4, it would be reasonable to put it up and down as needed during the day.

An important note, the murphy bed is a REAL bed. It’s the same mattress that’s on the other bed, not a flimsy sofa bed kind of mattress.

My adult sister slept on the murphy bed at Pop Century and deemed it very comfortable.

One of my favorite things about the murhpy beds is the surprise artwork you’ll find inside. It is such a Disney touch.

Artwork inside murphy bed at All Star movies resort

I always find the walls to be thin at the value resorts, and some moderate resorts as well. If you do plan to stay at All Star Movies resort, I highly recommend bringing a white noise machine like this one .

I personally own the one shown and have traveled to Disney with it many times. It does a bang up job of drowning out the sounds of your neighbors and people outside.

Granted, it was just me on this trip, but I find the storage in the redesigned rooms to be adequate. The open bottom platform bed allows you to store suitcases under it. This helps free up space in your room.

The dresser has 3 generous sized drawers and a safe and shelf inside the cabinet. The bathroom is full of shelves for additional storage.

View of All Star movies resort room from front door

Prior to this trip I stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort. Storage was one of my biggest complaints about the room. This value resort gives you much better storage options.

Outlets and USB Charging

Yes, this is important enough to have it’s own heading. A Disney trip requires heavy use of your smart phone. It is essential to fully charge all devices and portable chargers whenever possible.

P.S. – if you haven’t bought a portable charger yet, I highly recommend you do. This one is my favorite to use in the parks . Trust me, you’ll need it.

During the refurbishment, Disney very wisely upped the ante on charging options. There are plentiful standard outlets and USB outlets all over the room.

You’ll find them on the night stands and above the dresser. There are also standard outlets in the walls around the room.

I don’t have much to say about the bathroom other than it is efficiently functional. The separate area for the sink and toilet/tub is standard in all of the Disney resorts.

This definitely makes it easier for multiple people to use at once.

I felt the storage space for toiletries was adequate to my needs, though for 4 people things would get a bit tight.

Do I recommend All Star Movies Resort?

In the end, I definitely recommend All Star Movies resort for families looking to get the absolute cheapest Disney resort room .

Your stay at All Star Movies Resort would be enjoyable and functional, plus you get all the benefits of staying at a Disney resort.

However, if you can swing it, my choice of Disney Value resort is always Pop Century resort. It costs more, but the ability to use the Skyliner Gondolas opens up a whole new world of transportation options.

All Star Movies simply can’t compete with that. To compare the two, make sure to read my Pop Century resort review .

But seriously, you can’t go wrong with All Star Movies Resort as long as you manage your expectations.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Review (By Resorts Gal)

Over our years of traveling to Walt Disney World, often, our budget required staying at one of Disney’s value resorts . So, from time to time, we found ourselves at one of Disney’s All-Star Resorts since they are the most budget-friendly of all the Walt Disney World Resorts.

For whatever reason, probably price and availability, we almost always stayed at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort when we stayed at a value resort. However, there was a time or two that we ended up at the All-Star Sports.

While we’ve visited Disney’s All-Star Movies and explored the grounds, we had never stayed there until recently. So, I felt it was time to plan a stay and provide a formal review of the All-Star Movies Resort.

As you may know, the Disney All-Stars Resorts are almost entirely identical. The main difference is that each one has a unique theming. So, if you’re more into movies than sports or music, you might consider planning a stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies for your next vacation. Let’s take a look at what to expect.

a statue of Buzz Lightyear in the All-Star Movies Toy Story courtyard

When we booked this stay at All-Star Movies, we found a reasonable price for a preferred room. If you’ve read our other resort reviews, you know that budget is usually one of our top priorities when making reservations.

We pay for our resort stays out of pocket to provide unbiased reviews, so finding a decent deal is always a win. Typically, we wouldn’t consider a preferred room because of the price difference. But for this stay, that was the only room available with the current room discount. So, I thought this would be an opportune time to discuss whether or not a preferred room was worth it.

Most value and moderate resorts at Disney World have a preferred room category. These rooms are closer to the resort’s amenities. Per Disney, at All-Star Movies, preferred rooms are closer to Cinema Hall, dining, shopping, and transportation. So you won’t have to walk far from your room to get to these locations.

The following buildings at Disney’s All-Star Movies have dedicated preferred rooms:

  • Toy Story Buildings 9 and 10
  • Fantasia Buildings 5 and 8
  • 101 Dalmations Building 1 and 4

Some standard rooms are also in these buildings, and all the rooms in Love Bug and Mighty Ducks are standard. Our room (room 9805) was on the second floor in the Toy Story area. Here is a view from the walkway outside our room to the Cinema Hall.

view from the preferred room at All-Star Movies to the hotel's lobby

It took us approximately 0.19 miles (less than five minutes) to get from the room to the bus stop, the longest distance among the major amenities. On our way, we passed the feature pool, lobby, gift shop, and food court. So, if you want to minimize walking at the resort, you might consider a preferred room. However, the furthest room locations from the lobby aren’t a terrible distance.

That said, when you’ve been walking through the theme parks all day, you may get stiff on the bus ride back to the resort. If your room is toward the back of the resort, it will feel like another hike to get there.

When we arrived at the resort, we almost immediately received a text that our room was ready. Since we drove, we had to pass through the security gate on arrival. From there, the security guard alerts check-in that you’ve arrived, which usually generates a text response about whether your room is ready. If it is prepared, you will receive a text with the room number and can head directly to it. Unless there is an issue, you never have to worry about visiting the front desk for check-in or check-out. It all works seamlessly.

Most of the rooms at All-Star Movies will have a queen-size bed and a queen-size pull-down (Murphy-style) bed. These rooms sleep up to four guests.

When the bed is not in use, it doubles as a table with two chairs.

Bathrooms at the All-Star Movies have a tub with a shower combination.

Rooms have a coffee maker and a beverage cooler. Note that this beverage cooler is not the same as a mini-fridge. They have a warning on the front that they are only designed to cool items, not necessarily keep perishable items.

Toiletries include body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. A hair dryer, iron, and ironing board are also available. We have a separate article with extra photos and a video tour of the room if you want to preview more details.

When dining at All-Star Movies, you have one primary choice: the World Premiere Food Court. Additionally, there’s a pool bar, Silver Screen Spirits Pool Bar, which offers a few snack items and cocktails.

World Premiere is a large food court with four stations and one large grab-and-go area. It is usually open daily from 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

For breakfast, you can find anything from bagel sandwiches to Mickey-shaped waffles. During lunch, selections include pizza, burgers, and chicken strips. One station has healthier items like salmon with green beans.

The grab-and-go area has plenty of snacks. You’ll find chips, candy, crispy rice treats, cereal bars, protein bars, individual fruit cups, and a pastry case full of items.

During our stay, I photographed every item available at the food court, along with the menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Since there were too many photos to include in this review, we created a separate dining guide.

Like the other value resorts, All-Star Movies is different when it comes to pools. Each of the All-Star Resorts has two pools: a feature pool and a quiet pool. Unfortunately, these pools will not have a water slide or a hot tub.

Disney’s All-Star Movies feature pool is the Fantasia Pool, which sits directly behind Cinema Hall. This pool has a water feature with Sorcerer Mickey on a large stage backdrop.

It’s a fun pool with tons of seating. During the afternoon, cast members are available to play trivia and a few pool games. This helps keep the kids entertained.

Additionally, this pool has a separately fenced kiddie pool and splash area for children.

The splash area is in front of the main laundry room, and there is also a laundry room near each of the pools.

For those wanting a quieter experience, you may prefer to visit the Duck Pond Pool at the Mighty Ducks section of the resort.

While this is considered a quiet pool, it’s still a decent size and can get crowded, so it might not be quiet during your visit.

Most of the resorts offer nightly Movies Under the Stars near the pool. However, at All-Star Movies, there’s a separate covered area where movies are held.

The Reel Spot is immediately next to Cinema Hall, only a few steps from the Fantasia Pool.

Upon arrival, you’ll probably want to snap a photo of the recreational activities during the week of your stay. You can usually find a sign that lists the schedule in the lobby and near the pool area.

Here is a closeup showing the pool’s daily activities and the movie schedule. Various Disney films are available each night. This is a fun way to spend the evening on a day when you need some extra rest.

Regarding recreation, there are a few other things you may want to be aware of during your stay. For example, the resort has a large playground. There’s a small pathway between the Toy Story section of the resort and Cinema Hall that leads to it.

Toward the left side of the playground, a separate play area is designed for children ages 2-5.

Additionally, there’s a giant chess board and a few game tables in front of the Toy Story buildings.

We saw multiple guests playing ping-pong during our stay.

Right inside Cinema Hall, you’ll run into the Reel Fun Arcade.

Value resorts only offer one form of transportation to the Disney Parks: buses.

All-Star Movies buses take you to and from the following locations:

  • Magic Kingdom
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Blizzard Beach
  • Typhoon Lagoon
  • Disney Springs

*You’ll often have to take a transfer bus to the water parks. If so, the bus driver will drop you off at the transfer location. Then, you’ll find the bus stop for the water park at the drop-off.

During our stay, we took advantage of the bus transportation provided at the resort. We only used our car a handful of times to pick up fast food.

a sign that shows the wait times for the buses

All bus stops are located on the front side of Cinema Hall near the resort’s gift shop. We never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus.

But that is not always the case, no matter where you stay. Sometimes, the buses run slower than others for various reasons.

If you reserve an airport shuttle, they have a designated bus stop in the same area. We saw many Mears buses and Sunshine Flyers pick up guests during our stay.

Before we wrap things up, let’s look at the different sections of the resort. That way, you’ll have a good idea of where you might end up if you plan a stay here. Directly behind the feature pool is the resort’s Fantasia area, which is modeled after the popular Fantasia cartoon films.

Staircases on each end of the building are wrapped with books that say Fantasia 2000. Speaking of staircases, each building at All-Star Movies has an elevator.

There’s also a fun photo opp where you can stand inside the faux television screen.

Even the pavement in the area has bones.

On the opposite side of 101 Dalmatians sits the Mighty Ducks. This portion of the resort will be a little further away. It also sits directly across the parking lot from Disney’s All-Star Music Resort.

You’ll find tons of hockey sticks, pucks, and other references here.

Lastly, we stayed in the Toy Story section of the resort. It’s fun because when you first walk up to the section, you’ll enter through a large door with a sign that says, “Andy’s Room, Keep Out.”

a larger than life door way that leads to Andy's room in the Toy Story section of All-Star Movies

Once inside, you’ll see the familiar cloudy sky wallpaper. We noticed several guests had come over to take a few photos, likely for their Insta accounts. Most were wearing the popular cloudy sky dress.

Inside Andy’s room, you’ll find favorite Toy Story characters like Woody, Bo Peep, Rex, and Buzz Lightyear.

The Resorts Gal Spin on All-Star Movies

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and think All-Star Movies is suitable for those who want to stay on Disney property and remain in a certain price range. However, we did note a few negatives.

My main issue was that the rooms at All-Star Movies have thin walls. During our stay, someone next to us was very sick and coughed all night long. This kept me from sleeping one evening, and it added stress. Of course, this could happen at any of the values, and you’re not immune to overhearing things at most hotels. But it is something you’ll want to be aware of during your stay.

Additionally, other than a few snacks and coffee, we had most of our meals in the parks and at nearby off-property locations. Over the years, we’ve had plenty of Mickey-shaped waffles, Disney cheeseburgers, and pizza. So we’re always looking for something fresh.

While the food court has a good number of options, it could have been better. Anyone spending an entire week at the resort will likely be burnt out by the food options long before the end of their vacation. That said, smaller children love the All-Star Resorts. They don’t know the difference between a cheap motel room with exterior access and a high-end hotel room with interior entry.

Most children are enthralled by the character statues, pools, and resort playgrounds, which are not found at the deluxe resorts at Disney World . No you’re not going to get that fancy feeling you would if you were staying at a nice hotel. But if you can get a rate of approximately $130.00 or less per night, you’re going to get an incredible value for the benefit of getting to stay on Disney property. That’s about my top-out price for any of the All-Star Resorts.

the entrance to All-Star Movies with the green star at the front

Hopefully, this All-Star Movies Resort Review helped you plan your stay. We love the resort for what it is and find the theme fun.

As much as we love the nicer on and off-property resorts in the area, we know they aren’t always feasible for everyone’s budget. (Not even ours!) So we try to provide as many options as possible, no matter the price range.

The Best (and Worst!) Details of Staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

by Heather Adams | Apr 8, 2024 | Walt Disney World , Walt Disney World Resorts

Every Walt Disney World Resort hotel has its own pros and cons, and we’re sharing the best and the worst details that come with booking a stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.

When it comes to Walt Disney World’s Value resorts, Disney’s All-Star Movies is typically guests’ favorite of the three All-Star choices. With incredible Disney character theming, larger-than-life statues, and a more immersive feel than All-Star Music and All-Star Sports, All-Star Movies is a hotel that’s popular with adults, families, and guests of every interest.

However, there are advantages and disadvantages to staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort. Will it truly offer good value and bang for your buck? Are the amenities worth your investment? Will you be able to get to and from the theme parks easily? We’re sharing all of the best –– and worst –– details of staying at All-Star Movies so you can decide before you book.

The Best Details of Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

Standout Resort Theming

When it comes to theming across the resort, All-Star Movies is, well, a total star! Of all of the Value resorts, it’s home to some of the best theming (the only other resorts that might measure up are Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort ). After all, who doesn’t want to feel like they’ve been transported right into the action of their favorite Disney animated film?

Guests of all ages absolutely adore the larger-than-life Disney-animated icons sprinkled across All-Star Movies Resort. You’ll encounter statues that feature characters and props from films like The Love Bug , Mighty Ducks , Toy Story , 101 Dalmatians , and Fantasia –– and each section of the resort makes for some fantastic photo opportunities.

If you’re someone who want an Instagram-worthy place to stay, it’s hard to top the character-centric theming you’ll find at this resort! Even if you aren’t a huge fan of the characters themselves, the bright, bold colors of the resort and its decorative building exteriors make for eye-catching backdrops.

Affordable Room Rates

Okay, this is  technically one of the best reasons to stay at any Disney World Value resort, but we still think it’s one of the biggest pros of All-Star Movies: The room rates are nicely affordable. If you’re visiting the resort on a budget, All-Star Movies offers great bang for your buck. You’ll find reasonable pricing year-round, and you can stay on-property without overspending.

Additionally, the recently renovated rooms –– which are similar to those at Pop Century –– offer solid value for the per-night cost. There’s enough space in a standard room to comfortably fit up to four guests, plus a crib for an infant.

Plus, if you’re visiting with kids (or anyone who loves a good pool!), there are two pools at All-Star Movies to enjoy: the Fantasia Pool and the Duck Pond Pool. The Fantasia Pool is also home to a smaller kiddie pool and a water play area, and there are poolside activities available regardless of where you want to splash around.

Premium Perks for Less

Speaking of amenities like the pools at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, there are plenty of premium perks to be had at this hotel! Although you’re spending less and staying at a Value resort, you’ll notice that Disney doesn’t skimp on all of the top-tier offerings of any other onsite resort here. And that means you can enjoy many of the same perks of pricier hotel options without spending more.

For example, you’ll enjoy standard Walt Disney World Resort hotel advantages like:

  • Early Theme Park Entry , which provides an extra 30 minutes of access to the theme parks
  • Hey Disney voice assistant
  • Complimentary transportation around Walt Disney World Resort from theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs
  • Onsite dining options

Plus, at All-Star Movies, there’s so much to explore! Here, guests can enjoy extra perks like campfire activities, movies under the stars, a kid-approved playground, jogging trails, and even the Reel Fun Arcade.

The Worst Details of Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

Long Walks… and Bus Wait Times

All-Star Movies is a sizable resort, which means there’s quite a lot of space to explore –– but all of that space means you might find yourself taking quite a long walk from the check-in desk or bus loading area. It can take a few minutes to get from your room to other locations on property, especially if you’re staying farther away from Cinema Hall. It might not seem like a big deal, but after hitting thousands of steps in the theme parks each day, you may want a shorter walk (especially if you’re hauling a lot of gear or young kids!).

Preferred rooms at this resort do sit closer to both dining and transportation, so if you’re someone who has mobility concerns or simply doesn’t want to walk long distances, you may want to consider booking one of these versus a standard room.

Additionally, along with longer-than-typical walks around the resort, you’ll also want to keep bus wait times in mind. All-Star Movies is often at the end of the bus route, which can mean a longer-than-usual wait (especially during slow times of the year when All-Star bus service is consolidated for all three resorts) to get to and from the resort.

Limited Transportation Options

Speaking of transportation, it’s worth noting that your transportation options are limited when staying at All-Star Movies. There’s only one mode of complimentary transportations, and it’s buses . At times, you might encounter a lengthy wait time to get to and from the theme parks and resort.

What drives up the wait time? Well, sometimes buses are shared across all three All-Star resorts, making waiting for a bus even more challenging –– especially when All-Star Movies is the last resort to be picked up or dropped off.

No Pool Slides

While the two pools located at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort are themed well and very cute, they do have one shortcoming: Neither pool has a slide.

However, this isn’t atypical of the resort category. Pool slides are only available at Moderate or Deluxe resorts; no Value resort on Disney World property has pool slides. If a slide at the resort pool is a must-have, consider booking a higher-tier hotel.

Should You Book a Stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort?

Value resorts can be a great fit for those looking to stay on Walt Disney World property without spending a lot, and they offer plenty of extras over off-site hotels. At Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, the theming, multiple pools, and uniquely Disney perks offer plenty of great reasons to book a room.

However, if you want to be able to get to and from your resort quickly or want more transportation options, you may want to consider staying elsewhere. Overall, we think All-Star Movies is a great pick for anyone who’s looking for solid value and classic Disney theming. Need a resort that will accommodate more people , but with that Disney animation feel? Consider booking a room at Disney’s Art of Animation instead.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Review

Disney vacations can be expensive. If you’re looking to save a few bucks, then consider booking a stay at one of the Disney World value resorts . Best of all, being budget-minded at Disney doesn’t mean boring. With clean and modern rooms, colorful exteriors, and nods to classic Disney films blown up to massive proportions, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort offers a comfortable and convenient place to rest your head at wallet-friendly prices.

So, how does the Disney All-Star Movies Resort measure up to other value resorts at Disney World? Who should stay there? Read on as we pull back the curtain on everything you need to know about this Disney movie hotel.

Staying at the Disney All-Star Movie Resort

There’s no better way to save a few bucks on vacation than by opting to stay at a more modest hotel, and the same thing is true at Disney World. Value resorts offer all frills-free accommodations with all the necessary comforts and larger-than-life theming made for families with young children. While the Art of Animation Resort may be the most obvious choice when it comes to affordable Disney magic, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is also filled with character. Disney characters, that is!

Big dalmations sitting outside of All-Star Movies Hotel

Similar to its sister resorts, All-Star Music and All-Star Sports , each area of Disney’s All-Star Movies Hotel is inspired by a Disney movie. Stories-high icons and colorful exterior treatments make this whimsical hotel an ideal place to snap some selfies or the perfect family photo. Keep in mind that as the All-Star Resort opened way back in 1994, some of the films featured may not be familiar to kids these days, but that doesn’t make the hotel any less enjoyable.

The Toy Story section is easily the most impressive. There you’ll find characters like supersized versions of Woody, Buzz, Rex as well as some massive blocks and green army men on patrol. With its black-and-white spots and a stampede of puppies, kids will also enjoy the 101 Dalmatians area.

Your room could also be in one of the more nostalgic neighborhoods. Thanks to Sorcerer Mickey and his horde of out-of-control brooms, Fantasia is probably the most familiar. It’s also arguably the most desirable location as it’s home to the Fantasia Pool and just a short walk away from Cinema Hall.

And while The Mighty Ducks and Herbie: The Love Bug might not be recognizable to younger Disney guests, adults are sure to appreciate walking through the iconic duck-shaped hockey mask or below that adorable Volkswagen Beetle.

Disney All-Star Movie Resort Rooms

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort has earned a respectable 4.0 on TripAdvisor. Don’t worry about agonizing over which room you should book, as similar to the other Disney World All-Star Resorts, there are only a couple of room types to choose from. Regardless of whether you go for a standard or preferred room, at a cozy 260 square feet, All-Star Movies rooms are among the smallest on Disney property. So, we highly recommend them for small families, a couple doing Disney on the cheap, or some grown-up friends doing a budget-friendly adult Disney trip .

Though the building exteriors are inspired by different classic Disney movies, each of the guestrooms offer the same simple, streamlined look inside. Rooms at All-Star Movies are bright and airy with espresso-colored woods, pops of color, and clean, modern lines. Playful touches starring some beloved Disney characters like wall art and the headboard for the pull-down bed provide just the perfect touch of pixie dust and keep the room from feeling too plain.

Hotel room with one bed

In general, all standard and preferred rooms at All-Star Movies come with the following amenities: a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, in-room safe, telephone with voicemail, and free Wi-Fi.

All-Star Movies Standard Room

  • Comes with 1 king bed or 1 queen bed & 1 queen-sized table bed
  • Sleeps up to 4 adults
  • Views of the parking area, pool, or courtyard

All-Star Movies Preferred Room

  • Near Dining, Transportation, and Shopping Outlets at Cinema Hall

Disney All-Star Movies Resort Prices

Some people like to splurge on plush rooms or decadent dining. And while it is certainly possible to have a luxury Disney vacation , you’re not going to find it at Disney’s All-Star Movie Resort. More supporting cast than leading role, All-Star Movies is one of the cheapest hotels at Disney World, with rooms averaging around $124 a night . It’s this wallet-friendly price tag along with its bright, colorful theming starring popular Disney movies that makes it a great choice for both families traveling with young children and those looking for Disney magic on a budget.

While a stay here is affordable all year round, remember that room rates are subject to change depending on things like when you plan to travel, meaning that prices will increase over the busy season and drop during the slower times of the year. Unlike most of the other Disney World hotels, you can’t pay for a certain view. However, you can opt to pay for the convenience of a room that’s close to all of the essentials.

Standard rooms are the cheapest option at All-Star Movies, with rates starting in the low-to-mid $100s in the low season up to the high $200s over the busy season. Preferred rooms, in contrast, are the priciest room type at the resort, typically available for around the mid-to-high $100s during the slow months or the low $300s over the busy winter holidays.

Below are rough price ranges for what you can expect to pay at All-Star Movies in 2023 (plan for slightly lower rates in 2022 ) :

  • Standard Room: $128 to $289
  • Preferred Room: $155 to $323

Disney World All-Star Movies Resort Amenities

Everything comes with a price, and that includes value resorts at Disney World. So, while you won’t need to fork over extra cash on pricey room rates, you will need to sacrifice some convenient perks and additional comforts like expanded meal options, over-the-top pools, and a bunch of recreational activities. That being said, the Disney All-Star Movies Resort still has all the essentials for your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Dining at All-Star Movies

As a value resort, this Disney movie resort doesn’t have a variety of dining options like the dinner shows or signature restaurants you might find at the moderate or deluxe Disney World hotels. However, you will find the necessities, namely a counter-service restaurant and, of course, a pool bar .

If that isn’t enough to satisfy you and your cast, keep in mind that All-Star Movies is just a short drive away from the delicious restaurants found at the Coronado Springs and Animal Kingdom Lodge resorts, while a McDonald’s is within walking distance. Or, for something more substantial, consider taking the bus to Disney Springs or Disney’s BoardWalk for even more tantalizing Disney dining experiences.

World Premiere Food Court

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, World Premiere Food Court dishes up fast, affordable, all-American favorites from morning to night. In the AM, stop by this quick-service restaurant for hearty breakfast classics like Mickey Waffles and breakfast sandwiches to fuel your day in the park. Lunch and dinner feature more family-friendly eats like burgers, pizza, and daily roasted specials in the evenings.

Silver Screen Spirits Pool Bar

Overlooking the Fantasia Pool, the Silver Screen Spirits Pool Bar is the perfect spot for a relaxing intermission during a fun-filled day or a grown-up nightcap once the credits have rolled. Although you can’t get anything to eat here, there are plenty of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages to choose from, from smoothies and bottled water to beer and cocktails .

Disney All-Star Movies Pools

Things can get pretty hot around Central Florida during the summertime (or really any time). Aside from soaking up as much glorious A/C as possible, there’s no better way to cool off than with a dunk in the pool . (Pro Tip: We like going back to our hotel room during the afternoon when the sun is at its peak for a swim and a nap to beat the heat.)

Located in between Cinema Hall and the Fantasia building, the All-Star Movies feature pool is called the Fantasia Pool. Taking its inspiration from the film of the same name, the understated Fantasia Pool features a fountain starring Sorcerer Mickey, with a kiddie pool and water play areas also nearby.

For a more secluded swim, you can also check out the Duck Pond Pool. Younger hotel guests may not appreciate the theming here, but the older, wiser guests will, as the pool is designed to look like a hockey rink from the classic Disney movie, The Mighty Ducks .

Other Recreation at the Disney World All-Star Movie Resort

Unlike the deluxe and moderate resorts, Disney’s All-Star Movie Resort and other value hotels keep things simple (and budget-friendly) with a streamlined menu of recreational offerings. There’s no better place to catch alfresco screenings of family-friendly flicks than at this Disney movie resort, so be sure to check out Movies Under the Stars at The Reel Spot neighboring the World Premiere Food Court. Kids will also enjoy climbing around on the playground between the Toy Story and Fantasia sections of the hotel or testing their luck at the Reel Fun Arcade. Adults staying at All-Star Movies can run the stress of the day away and keep their workout schedule intact along a one-mile jogging path through Disney’s All-Star Resort.

All-Star Movies Hotel Disney Merchandise Locations

Whether you’re searching for a Disney movie-themed memento or a place to pick up something you forgot at home, Donald’s Double Feature has it all. Ideally located in Cinema Hall next to the Disney All-Star Movies food court, this merchandise outlet is also a convenient place to waddle through before jumping on the bus to the parks if you’re in need of a snack.

Complimentary Transportation to and from Disney All-Star Movies

Guests staying at Disney World resorts are able to use a variety of free transportation offerings. The only complimentary transportation available at All-Star Movies is the Disney bus system . Busses stop here outside of Cinema Hall, with routes running to each of the Disney theme parks and the Disney Springs entertainment district.

Routes are subject to change and busses may occasionally make stops at each of the other All-Star hotels before heading on to its ultimate destination. And although they’re not actually located at the resort, guests can also take advantage of other Disney transportation services like boats, the Disney Skyliner , or the Monorail .

One of the best Disney resorts for families on a budget , Disney’s All Star Movies Resort offers affordable accommodations, amazing theming and all of the perks of staying on Disney property. Today, I’m sharing what you need to know before booking your Disney vacation.

Everything you need to know about booking your Walt Disney World vacation at Disney's All Star Movies resort - is the low cost worth the sacrifices?

Walt Disney World’s All Star Movies Resort Review

Disney’s All-Star Movies resort is arguably the most Disney resort available. The larger-than-life theming of the resort is a kids’ dream, with giant character statues, bright colors and fun photo opps.

The cheapest Disney-owned resorts, the All-Star resorts offer fewer amenities, entertainment, dining options, and smaller room sizes than their moderate or deluxe resorts, but you get all of the perks of staying on property (Disney Magic Express, Disney transportation, access to cast members, ability to book dining plans, extra magic hours, etc) for half of the cost of staying at a moderate Disney hotel, like Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans.

all star movie reviews

Personally, I would recommend staying at an All-Star resort if you plan to spend the majority of your Disney vacation actually at the parks or Disney Springs. The moderate or deluxe resorts are awesome for those who want to spend half of their time enjoying the resort, but I think you miss out on many of the perks of staying at them if you’re at the parks every day.

There are enough entertainment options at the All-Star resorts to fill a couple hours a day, or keep you busy on arrival and departure days plus one extra non-park day. Beyond that, you’ll want to either visit other resorts or head to Disney Springs to seek out more options.

The pools are pretty plain, but you can pool-hop among the other All-Star resorts, giving you access to six pools, and there are daily activities for kids including scavenger hunts, trivia contests, and crafts, plus nightly movies.

all star movie reviews

If you’re looking for a resort that has a better mix of comfort and amenities, I would recommend staying at:

  • Disney’s Port Orleans – slightly more expensive, more elegant theming, more food options, and more for kids to do;
  • a Disney Springs-area hotel like Wyndham Gardens Lake Buena Vista – very affordable, on-site character dining, and a 2 minute walk away from the food and entertainment of Disney Springs;
  • or the (non-Disney owned) Swan and Dolphin hotel – slightly more expensive, on-site character dining, great pool, and 2 minute walk from Disney’s Boardwalk and 5 minute walk from Epcot

Rooms Options

When staying at Disney’s All Star Movies Resort, you have two room options:

  • Standard Room
  • Preferred Room

The difference between the two is that the Preferred Rooms are a shorter walking distance to the resort’s amenities, like the Cinema Hall, Dining options, stores and bus stops. None of the rooms are in the same building as the resort lobby, food court or souvenir shop. Value resort rooms are the smallest at 260 sq ft, compared to 314 at the moderate hotels.

Like most Disney rooms, you can only have 4 people plus a crib in the rooms – but the low cost of the value resorts also makes it feasible for bigger families to get two adjoining rooms for more space.

There are also disabled-access rooms that follow Florida’s Accessibility Access codes available in every building, and two elevators in each of the 30 3-story motel-style buildings.

all star movie reviews

We went with a Standard Room in the “Love Bug” building, mostly for the extra $15 savings which we could put towards little splurges. I didn’t feel like our building was much further from amenities than the other buildings – they are all a bit of a trek. Being a bit further from the pools and main building does have the added perk of this building being the quietest on resort property.

As long as there are no lightning warnings, a cast member will help you to your room with your bags if that is a concern. If you are arriving via Express or hotel transfer, you may have to wait a bit for your luggage to be dispatched.

all star movie reviews

Aside from the Family Suites at Pop Century, all of Disney’s value resorts lack the in-room theming that the moderate and deluxe resorts are known for, however the resort itself has larger-than-life theming the minute you leave your room (literally).

The All Star Resorts have all been recently renovated to include space-saving “Murphy beds” and now all have in-room coffee makers and dorm-style mini fridges. The resort only has a few microwaves available on a first-come first-serve basis and in the food court.

I highly recommend booking your All Star Movies stay and Disney tickets through Undercover Tourist rather than directly through Disney. They are fully accredited by Disney and you will save way more money booking through them than booking directly withe Disney. The tickets also have a 90-day flexible return window, and you can book any rental cars or other entertainment in the Orlando area through them as well.

Dining at Disney’s All Star Movies Resort

All Star Movies has three dining options available to guests:

  • World Premiere Food Court  with 5 walk-up quick service counters offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options
  • Silver Screens Spirits Pool Bar beside the Fantasia pool allows you to sit at the bar with your drink or take it to go. Wine, beer, mixed drinks and frozen cocktails.
  • Late Night Pizza Delivery is available after 5pm

all star movie reviews

The World Premiere Food Court offers waffles, omelets, pancakes, croissant breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, cereal and a variety of pastries for breakfast.

Lunch and dinner options include steak and shrimp, salmon, BBQ pork ribs, chicken, cheeseburgers, pizza, salads, pasta and desserts. They also have an exclusive “secret menu” that you can request at the Roxy counter, including poutine, bacon mac and cheese dogs, and the famous cinnamon bun and candied bacon cheeseburger (served with coleslaw and fries). The process of ordering from the secret menu is super fun, involving a Secret Agent briefcase and a Viewmaster to view the menu options.

Meals typically range from $6-15. All of these food options can be purchased using the Disney Dining Plan, if you are using it, and can be ordered via their mobile ordering system on the MyDisneyExperience app to save time on line-ups.

To learn more about Disney’s dining plan and what terms like “quick service” restaurant means, check out this post.

When we checked in on our first night, the food court was already closed (I think it was around 10pm – though it’s supposed to be open until midnight) so we opted for the in-room pizza delivery. We ordered meatball subs, pizza and breadsticks, and everything was delicious. Pizzas were $15, two pizzas will cost you $40.50 after the 18% mandatory gratuity and $3 delivery fee.

Note that late-night pizza delivery can be suspended if there are lightning warnings, which occur often in the summer. Even if you’ve placed your order, if the weather changes, they won’t be delivering it until after they get the all-clear, so you may want to plan ahead and have some healthy snacks in the room to tide you over.

all star movie reviews

All-Star Movies is home to two pools: a Fantasia-themed pool with a Sorcerer Mickey spouting water, and a Mighty Ducks-themed “Duck Pond” pool which is the resort’s quiet pool (so splashing and loud games are discouraged). Again, a perk of the All-Star resorts is that you can pool hop at all three resorts (this is the only time you can pool hop to a different resort than what you are staying at).

None of the Value resort pools have water slides or hot tubs.

Beside both pools are self-serve laundry facilities which cost $7 for soap, washing and drying. I love this option for allowing us to travel lighter, and it’s super convenient for letting the kids have fun in the pool while you’re waiting. (I just have my daughter hop out when I have to switch over the laundry, etc.)

all star movie reviews

In the main building, you will find the food court, check-in counter, Movie theatre for nightly showings of Disney movies, an arcade (50cents to $2 a game) and Donald’s Double Feature Gift Shop which offers souvenirs, basic pharmacy items, and Disney-branded snacks. Like all Disney resorts, the lounge area always has Disney shows or movies playing to keep the kids happy while you deal with anything at the front desk or concierge.

There is a small playground and a 1 mile jogging trail. (No fitness center on the resort.)

Self-parking is $15/night at the time of this review. No valet parking is available.

Unique Experiences for the Kids at Disney’s All Star Movies Resort

All Disney resorts have a daily list of events and All-Star Movies is no exception!

Options include hula hoop contests, trivia contests, tie dying (at a cost), scavenger hunts, ring tosses, and crafts. There are also nightly movies (however, the theatre chairs are uncomfortable and I’d personally prefer to just watch a movie on the comfy beds in the room).

all star movie reviews

Proximity to Disney Parks and Disney Springs

None of Disney’s moderate or value resorts are close enough to the parks for guests to be able to walk. You will always need to use transportation, whether the free options provided by Disney, your own car, or a hired Uber/Lyft.

All-Star Movies is the last resort for pick-ups and drop-offs with Disney transportation, which can be frustrating if you’ve been waiting awhile and the bus is too full to accept all passengers. While the buses are supposed to arrive every 15 minutes, that’s never actually the case (at any Disney resort). If this is going to be frustrating for you, opting for alternative transportation may make your vacation easier.

Potential Concerns

In addition to the things previously mentioned (fewer entertainment options, less exciting pools and smaller rooms) there are a couple of things to consider when deciding if All-Star Movies resort is the right choice for your family’s vacation.

The dining options are lacking, which is fine if you’re planning on using a grocery service, delivery from local restaurants, or eating mostly at the parks, or if you have picky eaters who would be fine with the tamer options available at the food court. For us, we decided to travel to other Disney-owned resorts and Disney Springs to take advantage of the options available there.

The All-Star resorts can often be host to large groups due to the low cost of staying there, especially during events hosted by ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. You can check their calendar to try to prevent scheduling your stay to coincide with a large event, but that can be hit or miss. If you end up staying at the resort when it’s at high-capacity, the pool area can get rowdy and over-run and the motel-style lay-out of the hotel can mean lots of noise, even late into the evening. (This is by far the biggest complaint made about the resort in online review forums.)

Overall, I think if you’re planning to spend the majority of your vacation at the parks or Disney Springs, the low cost of staying at either an All-Star Resort or a Disney neighbour resort like Wyndham Garden ( read our review here ) outweigh the negatives, simply because you won’t have a lot of time to deal with the negatives – or, conversely, fully enjoy the perks of a more expensive moderate hotel.

Young kids especially will love the theming and will be too tired from their park days to really want to do more than splash in the pool or participate in the daily activities.

Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

1901 West Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, Florida, United States | (407) 939-7000

Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

  • Extended hours to access the parks, free shuttles, and other Disney resort perks
  • Two large pools
  • Affordable self-serve, cafeteria-style dining
  • Worn, outdated guest rooms
  • Poor noise insulation; you'll hear your neighbors' every word
  • No full-service restaurant
  • Self-serve cafeteria; long lines, repetitive meals
  • Longer transportation times to most theme parks than other Disney resorts
  • No supervised kids' club or activities on-site

One of Disney's least expensive resorts, the 1,920-room All-Star Movies Resort is one of three adjacent, virtually identical All Star properties. Small, worn rooms, scarce food options, two fairly ordinary pools, and Disney's standard set of free services -- not bad, for the price, but the similarly priced Pop Century has faster access to most of Disney's theme parks.

  • Air Conditioner
  • Babysitting Services
  • Basic Television

  • Gameroom / Arcade
  • Kids Allowed
  • Poolside Drink Service

Full Review

A family-oriented, movie-themed resort with all the disney resort perks, but also low quality rooms and facilities.

Scene Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

The 1,920-room All-Star Movies is a sprawling, family-oriented resort with some elements of several Disney movies, from Mighty Ducks bedding to a 47-foot-tall Buzz Lightyear statue in the grounds. It's in Disney's Value category, the cheapest rung of Disney resorts (above camping, that is). Its guest rooms are smaller, its features are fewer, and, unlike the Moderate- and Deluxe-category resorts, its only food option is a self-serve cafeteria. It is one of a triplet of near-identical All-Star properties next to one another (All-Star Music and All-Star Sports have the same layout, food options, and activities, but different decorations).

The resort consists of five different motel-style, three-story buildings; each building is decorated to represent a different Disney film: Toy Story , Fantasia , Love Bug , 101 Dalmatians , and The Mighty Ducks . It has two movie-themed pools, a small video-game arcade, and fake tattoo and hair wrap carts set up in the afternoon -- little else.

Like all Disney resorts, the hotel comes with some great perks: free parking throughout Disney World; free shuttle service to Disney resorts, parks, and Downtown Disney; extended hours at Disney parks; you can charge any activities, food, or purchases at a Disney park or resort to your room bill.

However, due to the All-Stars resorts' location on the far outskirts of Disney World near Animal Kingdom, it is a generally a less-desirable option than other value-category options like the more central Pop Century , which offers faster direct shuttles to Epcot and other Disney parks.

Services are basic and the staff is very small, but guests get all the benefits of staying at a Disney resort.

Service Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

Compared to Disney's more expensive resorts, like the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, this property seems to have a skeleton staff: front desk staff, security, lifeguards, and cafeteria check-out staff perform minimal practical services; not a pampering customer service experience. All of the dining is self-serve, there are no kids' clubs or supervised activities on-site, and the lines at the front desk can get frustratingly long. But, like at all Disney resorts, you're guaranteed a set of free services. These include free transportation within Disney, off-hours access to the parks, and the ability use the room key card to charge theme-park purchases to the rooms.

  • Free shuttle transportation to and from Orlando International Airport, plus free delivery of one luggage item per person
  • Free shuttle transportation to all Disney attractions, including Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Downtown Disney (10- to 25-minutes, depending on traffic)
  • Extended hours to the parks -- opens one hour early and/or up to three hours after the park's closing time
  • Guests can charge all theme park purchaces (and purchaces at other Disney Resorts) to their rooms.
  • Concierge desk, mainly to help guests book an activity or get tickets to an event.
  • No poolside drink service
  • No full room service menu; just pizza delivery

Inside Walt Disney World Resort, a five to 10-minute shuttle to Animal Kingdom

Disney All-Star Movies is one of three adjacent "All-Star" properties (Music and Sports being the other two) located on the far western end of Walt Disney World, near Animal Kingdom. It's relatively isolated from many of the park's most popular areas, Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney, making the shuttle rides longer in many cases (up to 25 minutes, for example) and less convenient, especially for families.

Like most Disney resorts, Disney's All-Star Movies Resort is set back from the main roads. It's quiet, but like just about any Orlando resort, there isn't anything to do, eat, or see within reasonable walking distance.

  • Free bus transportation to Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Downtown Disney (all within 10- to 25-minutes, depending on traffic)
  • 15- to 20-minute drive to SeaWorld and Wet 'n Wild parks
  • 20-minute drive to Universal Studios and Universal's Islands of Adventure
  • 15- to 20-minute drive to International Drive, a 14.5-mile road parallel to Interstate 4 that's full of hotels, strip malls, outlet shops, and restaurants
  • 30-minute drive to Orlando International Airport (Disney provides a free shuttle)

Small, dated, movie-themed guest rooms with poor sound insulation

Rooms Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

The guest rooms feel old (the last section of the resort was constructed in 1999 and it does't look like the rooms have seen much of a renovation since then). The walls and carpet are shabby; flaking paint and dirty tile grout are clear signs that the rooms are due for an update.

  • Small standard rooms (260 square feet) -- smaller than most other hotel rooms in Orlando, but about the same size as the other rooms in the "Value" category of Disney resorts
  • Standard room capacity is four, on two double-size beds.
  • Poor noise insulation between rooms; Expect to hear your neighbors' family feuds, crying babies, and television sets.
  • Cramped bathroom; toilet and shower in separate rooms, but the vanity area doubles as closet space.
  • Disney-brand soap provided; no other toiletries like shampoo or conditioner provided
  • Old, tube TV; basic cable and on-demand movies (no DVD player, though)
  • No balconies; rooms open to either ground level pathways or exposed hallways
  • Some rooms are up to a half-mile from the hotel lobby, amenities, and dining.

Two pools and awe-inspiring, movie character statues; little else

Features Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

While the on-site facilities might be a bit limited, at least compared to most other Orlando resorts, guests can use the free Disney shuttle service (or just drive themselves) to get to other resorts -- including the Animal Kingdom and Coronado Springs -- and freely use the kids' club, gym, restaurants, pools, and shops there.

  • Movie-themed Fantasia Pool with a "Sorcerer's Apprentice" fountain (a large fountain themed after the Fantasia character); small, shallow children's pool beside it
  • Duck Pond Pool, next to the Mighty-Duck-themed buildings, shaped like a hockey rink
  • Videogame arcade next to the food court and lobby (game tokens bought on-site)
  • Fake tattoo and hair-wrap station (hours are seasonal)
  • Free Wi-Fi on entire property
  • Coin-operated laundry room
  • Gift shop sells a small stock of snacks and groceries (at inflated resort prices).

Small rooms and minimal on-site kids' activities, but highly affordable rates and kid-friendly themes

Family Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

The All-Star properties are designed for families: kid-friendly themes; affordable, kid-friendly cafeteria-style dining; and activities like a video-game arcade and multiple supervised pools. That said, the entertainment is sparser and quality of rooms and facilities lower than at Disney properties of a higher tier -- rooms are somewhat small and in need of renovations; there's no kids' club; and food options, despite being kid-friendly, are still somewhat limited. It's best enjoyed as a landing pad for families spending most of their time (and money) at the parks.

  • Standard room capacity is four, on two double-size beds. Extra rollaways are available for a per day fee and cribs are free, but it also costs an additional fee per day per guest over the age of two years old.
  • Free cribs and bedrails, available by request
  • Poor noise insulation between rooms; could be a problem for light sleepers
  • Kid-friendly dining
  • Concierge can arrange private, in-room babysitters through a separate company.
  • On-site coin-operated laundry room
  • Video-game arcade
  • Two pools, including a shallow children's pool
  • No kids' club or supervised activities on-site

Cleanliness

Well cleaned, but carpets, furniture, and walls are in need of repair

Though housekeeping is visibly active throughout the property, the rooms' dingy paint, old carpets, and banged-up furniture are clearly reaching their expiration date. The groun d s seem well-enough maintained, but Disney clearly puts minimal investment into updating the facilities and rooms.

All-Inclusive / Food

Just a single, self-serve cafeteria -- mediocre food; long lines

All-Inclusive / Food Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

Dining is an area where the cost cut of Disney's "Value" resorts really shows -- the only food available on-site is a single, self-serve cafeteria, End Zone, which serves kid-friendly options like pizza, pasta, fried chicken, and chili-cheese dogs. During breakfast and dinner, long lines overwhelm the cashiers and it can be hard to find a place to sit.

  • End Zone cafeteria serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (hours are seasonal).
  • Breakfast items -- pancakes, waffles, cereals, and pastries.
  • Lunch and dinner items run a narrow range from pizza and pasta to burgers, chili-cheese dogs, and chicken nuggets.
  • Silver Screen Spirits, the on-site bar, serves alcoholic drinks outside the food court, near the resort's [[main pool].
  • No formal room service, but guests can order pizza and have it delivered to their room in the evenings.

Save Money at the Disney All-Star Movies Resort Review

Posted on Published: 06/13/2024

While I’ve stayed in most Disney resort hotels over my many years visiting Walt Disney World, I had never stayed in one of the All-Star resorts. These three value resorts (All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, and All-Star Sports), are kid-friendly and can be a great deal without sacrificing the fun and quality you expect from the Disney World resorts.

During a recent trip to Walt Disney World as the first part of my Disney Land and Sea vacation , I spend two nights at the Disney All-Star Movies Resort. It was a great experience and such a good way to save money while still getting the fantastic benefits of staying at a Disney property.

Disney All-Star Movies Resort Review

The location of the disney all-star movies resort.

The All-Star Movies resort, like the other two All-Star Disney resorts, is located in the Animal Kingdom section of the park. However, despite that location, you’ll still need to take a bus to Animal Kingdom. It’s not walkable to any of the theme parks.

Buses will take you to all four theme parks (the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), as well as Disney Springs and the two water parks. There is one bus stop for the whole resort, and they aren’t covered.

So, in the sun, they can definitely get a little hot while you are waiting. You can see wait times for the next bus time on your My Disney Experience app.

Parking is available for resort guests. I prefer to forgo the rental car when staying at Walt Disney World because I just take the free transportation and let someone else do the driving.

Newly Renovated Room at the All-Star Movies Resort

The Rooms at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

The rooms at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort are relatively small but are still comfortable. These All-Star Movies renovated rooms feel brand new and are clean and inviting. They are very similar to the newly renovated rooms at Pop Century.

Most of the rooms have two beds, including one standard queen bed and a queen pullout bed that doubles as a table. Despite being a Murphy bed, this pullout bed is still a very comfortable mattress.

I was especially impressed with the number of pillows in the room (9 total!), and the comfort of the bed. These queen beds replace the double beds that used to be in the rooms before the renovation.

There is plenty of space in the rooms, with a small open closet and drawers. If you are bringing along your electronics, you’ll find numerous outlets and USB ports. Instead of carpeting, you’ll find laminate flooring which stays much cleaner than carpeting.

The rooms include a mini-refrigerator, safe, coffee maker, hairdryers, iron with ironing board, and television. You will be able to use your MagicBand to open the door to the room if you have one. Otherwise, you’ll be able to use the app or get a key card.

Guest rooms are all located in various buildings scattered throughout the resort. These are motel-style rooms, with an exterior entrance to the room. There are stairs and elevators to get you to the upper floors.

There are five separate sections to the resort, themed for various popular movies. These include 101 Dalmatians, Toy Story, the Mighty Ducks, Herbie the Love Bug, and Fantasia. While you’ll see decor for these Disney movies along the exterior of the buildings, the rooms themselves aren’t themed.

In addition to the rooms with two queen beds, there are some rooms available with king beds. There are standard rooms and preferred rooms at the resort. The difference between these rooms is the location – preferred rooms are in more convenient locations. I do like having the preferred room because you’ll have less walking to do, but if you’d like to save money, the standard rooms are a great option.

The Duck Pond Pool at Disney's All Star Movies Resort

Amenities at the Disney All-Star Movies Resort

All-Star Movies has larger-than-life characters dotted throughout the resort, making it lots of fun for little kids. While I was traveling without my children for my visit, I saw so many kids enjoying the decor.

There are lots of amenities and activities at the resort for the time you spend there. While some guests prefer to spend their vacation time at the parks, sometimes you’ll want to enjoy your resort.

You’ll find two pools at the All-Star Movie resort. The pool area in the center of the resort is the Fantasia pool, which includes the main pool, a kiddie pool, and a water play area.

Fantasia Pool

During our stay, the Fantasia Pool was bustling, especially since the weather was very hot. There’s also a second pool, the Duck Pond Pool, which is themed after the Mighty Ducks movie. It’s made to look like an ice skating rink and is located toward the back of the resort. Towels are available at both pools.

When I stay on property at Walt Disney World, I usually try to spend at least one afternoon at the pool. It’s a great way to cool down and get away from the crowds of the parks.

There are other amenities and activities at the hotel. These include laundry facilities, an ATM, Donald’s Double Feature gift shop, a concierge, and bell services.

Online check-in is available. If you check in to your resort in advance of your stay, you can bypass the cast members at the front desk and go directly to your room. You’ll receive a text message when your room is ready, and you can choose to either use the app or your MagicBand to open your room.

My flight landed at 12:30 pm, and my room was ready when I arrived. Check-in time, however, is 3:00 pm, so be prepared for that. Bell services can always hold your bags if you’d like to go directly to the theme parks without waiting for your room.

The Reel Fun Arcade

The resort offers other activities, including Movies Under the Stars. There’s also the Reel Fun Arcade, located in the main building (Cinema Hall) as well as a playground. Disney Value Resorts do not have water slides at the pools, or hot tubs, however.

As a bright, fun resort, All-Star Movies will definitely appeal to kids. If they are fans of the various themes, they’ll love it even more. It’s a fun place.

The World Premiere Food Court

Food at the Disney All-Star Movies Resort

Food is always a big part of any of my Walt Disney World vacations. I typically eat most of my meals at the parks and Disney Springs, but it’s always good to have options at the resort.

As a value resort, All-Star Movies does not have a table service restaurant. They do, however, offer plenty of food options. The All-Star Movies Food Court, called the World Premiere Food Court, has five separate areas where you’ll find various entrees.

The World Premiere Food Court is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It also has a large center beverage refill area where you can fill up your refillable mugs (if you choose to purchase one from the resort).

We had breakfast at the All-Star Movies food court and found there to be plenty of food options. It was busy, but we were able to quickly get our food and easily found a table. While we didn’t have lunch or dinner there, I did notice that there were lots of food choices for those meals as well.

Mobile ordering is available from the app if you’d rather not wait in line. I noticed many guests picking up mobile orders to bring back to their rooms. That’s a great option for breakfast if you are in a hurry.

One member of the family can go pick up their breakfast while everyone else is getting ready. With the bed folding up into a table, there’s space to eat in the room before you head out to the theme parks for the day.

Choosing an All-Stars Resort

Wondering which of the All-Stars resorts is the best? If you are trying to figure out which of the resorts to choose, you may be wondering which is the best.

In general, the resorts are all fairly compatible. Amenities at the two resorts are similar. If the buses are using a shared route (they didn’t during my stay but sometimes do), All-Star Movies will be the last stop.

The main building, Cinema Hall, has the look of a movie theater lobby, along with a miniature theater for kids as they wait through check-in. As you move through Cinema Hall, you’ll find Donald’s Double Feature (gift shop) as well as World Premiere Food Court. Pick up a snack from the food court before exploring the merchandise.

Right out the back of Cinema Hall is the Fantasia Pool, one of the two themed pools for the resort. This block of rooms is also the Fantasia section, and is closest to the majority of the amenities. All of the themed sections have two T-shaped buildings, facing each other with a courtyard section in the middle. These courtyards have the same movie theme as the space, giving you and your family the feeling of being in the Disney films.

History of Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

Built in 1999, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort was the last of the All-Star suite Disney World property.

These resorts were part of a move in the 1990s to provide budget options with that Disney-level of quality, particularly for young families. Hugely successful, especially with the construction of Disney’s Animal Kingdom right down the road, the All-Star complex started a completely new category of resort – Value Resorts.

Animal kingdom tree

After the success of the All-Star resorts, this opened the door for more value level resorts such Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation . While many people seem to pass over All-Star Sports, its significance remains in starting the value resort model. These resorts also have a family-friendly focus that is perfect for your littles, from the décor to the open spaces outside for play.

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Amenities

As a value resort, Disney’s All-Star Movies doesn’t have the same level of amenities as the deluxe, or even moderate level, resort have to offer. However, All-Star Movies has plenty to keep your family comfortable and having fun. The Disney quality remains at this resort, as do the benefits of staying on property. It’s the best way to get the wallet-friendly hotel and the Disney-level experience all in one vacation .

Rooms at All-Star Movies

There’s only one type of room at Disney’s All-Star Movies – t he standard hotel-style room.

These rooms have two double beds and a split bathroom, with the sink outside the bathroom and the toilet and shower-tub in the bathroom. The TV sits inside armoire, which also has drawers for storage. In addition to the drawers, a mini-fridge is in the bottom of the armoire if you have any cold items you would like to store. A small, two-person table completes the room, although there are a few places to hang items throughout the space.

Even though there’s only one room layout, there are two categories of rooms – standard and preferred. As we’ve seen before, the preferred rooms aren’t any different in terms of size or layout. What makes a room preferred is the location within the resort. Preferred rooms are typically in the Fantasia section of All-Star Movies, which is the closest to Cinema Hall. Paying a little bit extra to get a preferred room puts you closer to the food and Disney bus transportation, as well as the main pool.

this is actually a permanent fixture on the walls of the rooms in the all star movies resort where its been for a while https://t.co/vcqIUdJ9SH pic.twitter.com/lxaWuH32xI — rissy 🌷🌵🍓 (@harpyeda) September 9, 2021

The décor shows classic Disney characters in some of their best-known roles, as well as some other movie-themed elements. Again, you get what you pay for in this instance. The rooms are simple, but still comfortable, and ideal for small families looking to spend a lot of time out of the room.

There are two pools at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort – Fantasia Pool and Duck Pond Pool

The Fantasia Pool is located in the Fantasia section of the resort. The two buildings of the Fanasia section face in towards the pool, giving guests on those sides of the buildings a great view of the pool area. Those guests also have immediate access to the pool, perfect if you have little swimmers in your group.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Meg | Boy Mom | Travel Planner (@megsmagicallife)

Fantasia Pool is an expansive pool space, with Sorcerer Mickey looking down on you from above. Enjoy the cascading fountains as Mickey uses his magic to control the water, perfectly framed by a curtain representing the screen. For those that have littles, a baby pool is right near the main pool, perfect for wading and splashing. You can also find lounge chairs near the baby pool if you want to make that your “home base.”

There are some tables spread throughout the pool also, but there are definitely more lounge chairs than tables. If you want a table, I suggest going down to the pool early or trying to hit it later in the afternoon around 3:00 or 4:00, when people are starting to leave. Most of the chairs are out in the open, so sunscreen is a must!

Take a look at the Fantasia Pool in this video:

When your hear the name Duck Pond Pool, you might be thinking of Donald. However, in this instance, we’re talking the Mighty Ducks , giving this pool a hockey rink theme. Another large pool space, this simple rectangle pool has the lines of the hockey rink on the bottom. This pool is on the far side of the resort, designed to meet the needs of those located in the Mighty Ducks and 101 Dalmatians sections. Unlike some other resorts, this is not a leisure or quiet pool. You don’t want to necessarily expect less pool traffic or a quieter experience at this swimming spot.

For those planning to have their own vehicle, there’s plenty of parking at All-Star Movies. Each building has access to close parking, with the exception of buildings five and six, which are internal to the resort. If you’re looking for a building with parking on all sides, make a request for building two in the Mighty Ducks section or buildings six and seven in the Love Bug .

As a value resort, the overnight parking fee is $15 per night. All-Star Music does not have a valet parking option.

As always, you can come visit the resort for fun, provided the resort doesn’t have an event that would make it overly busy.

Sports and Recreation at Disney’s All-Star Movies

As a value resort, All-Star Movies doesn’t necessarily have all the same sports options as some of the higher tier stays. However, there is still plenty to do!

Jogging Trails

Those who love a good walk or run will enjoy this jogging trail through the entire All-Star resort areas. The trail is approximately one and a half miles long, going from the end of All-Star Sports all the way to the end of All-Star Movies. While the trail isn’t a circuit, you have the benefit of being at the beginning end of the trail. This makes your total run or walk about three miles. This is also a great activity in the evening, taking you around the entirety of the resort while giving you the chance to take some great pictures along the way.

Between the Fantasia and Toy Story sections, a playground complex is the perfect way for your younger kiddos to get out some energy. Especially if you’re taking a break from the parks, you don’t want to just sit in your room during the vacation. Let your little ones swing, slide, run around, and just be kids!

Reel Fun Arcade

While some of the deluxe resorts are getting rid of their arcades, the All-Star resorts have kept theirs. Next to the food court in Cinema Hall is Reel Fun Arcade, with all of your typical arcade entertainment. This is a great stop on a rainy day, as you can have fun playing the games together without being stuck in your room.

Movie under the Stars

Like many of the Disney resorts , All-Star Music offers an outdoor movie night on select evenings. This is a great way to wrap up your day, especially if you’re not in a park or don’t have to get up early the next morning. Bring your own snacks, a blanket or chairs, and of course your whole family! The movies are always Disney favorites and kid-friendly, so you don’t need to worry about the content. One of the benefits of the family atmosphere!

Disney’s All-Star Music Transportation Options

all star movie reviews

As far as transportation goes, the options at All-Star Music are limited. However, that’s what makes All-Star Music a great place for drivers, as you have plenty of parking and quick access to the rest of Walt Disney World .

If you’re looking to take Disney transportation, you’re going to be using the Disney bus system. The bus stop is right out front of Cinema Hall, and that’s the only place to catch a bus. If you’re on the other side of the resort, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to walk over to Cinema Hall to get your bus. Once you’re on a Disney bus, you can get over to another resort or park to use another type of Disney transportation.

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Location

Disney’s All-Star resorts, including All-Star Music, are right off Osceola Parkway at the lower end of the resort. While you can see the resorts from 192, you can’t actually get to the resorts from that road.

To get onto Osceola Parkway, get off Florida 400 (I-4) at the W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (530) Disney World exit, and then turn right onto World Drive. At the next light, you’ll turn left onto Osceola Parkway, and almost immediately left again into the All-Star resort complex. All three All-Star resorts have the same main road connecting them, with their own small entrances for each individual resort. Make sure you select the correct one!

Disney’s All-Star Music Resort Address

1901 West Buena Vista Drive Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830-8412 ( link to map )

If you need to contact the resort directly, call (407) 934-7639. However, if you have any questions about bookings, tickets, or packages, you should call (407) 939-5277 to speak with a Disney World representative. All dining reservations go through Disney’s online booking service .

Feel like you’ve jumped through the film screen with your stay at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort!

Overall it's a value resort, what did you expect? Basic amenities and worth the price if you aren't spending time at the resort.

Boring, pool is alright. If you don't wanna spend too much but want early access to parks. This is it.

On June 24, 2023, we arrived at Disney All-Star Movie Resort. When we arrived in our room, I put my passport in the safe and left my wallet on the counter near the television. The hotel was dirty, and the room seemed a bit warn out, and being close to the pool, it was always noisy. After three days there, they came to clean our room. When I returned to the room from one of the parks, I noticed my wallet was gone. I never needed my wallet since we used our magic band and linked it to my credit card. I immediately went to the front desk, and they said we would get security when questioned about what was in my wallet. They proceeded to tell me that I must have misplaced it. They said they would investigate it, but I may need to file a police report. I was completely blown off and sent on my way. I had an expensive wallet with all my credit cards and personal cards. When I filed a police report, they responded four days later, telling me that a statement couldn't be filed. I had already returned to where I live and felt Disney misled me by telling me to contact them. Please be aware that this hotel is unprofessional, and I view Disney now in a different light.

This hotel is weird. The dining options are really bad, with only a pool bar and a food court. Also, the rooms have only a curtain seperating the main part of the room and the bathroom. I get that it's a value/cheap resort, but Disney should at least pit some effort in the rooms! When my family of 4 stayed in these rooms, we hear all the noise from the bathroom. Most rooms are also noisy from outside. You can also only rely on buses, which sucks. I don't recommend this hotel. If you need to stay at the all stars, go to all star music.

My family takes a trip to Disney every few years. My mom and I are both coming from different places so it's usually cheaper for us to fly in a day early and stay at one of the All Star resorts. This year, we stayed at movies and I gotta say I was floored. I don't know when they did it, but the renovations are amazing. The room had a bed and a table pull down which was perfect for us. The bathroom was AMAZING and was better than the one we had at our moderate resort for the rest of the trip. What jumped out at me the most, though, was the food. The food court here was better than almost every other food court at the other hotels. Our dinner here was excellent. If you are not going to be back at the resorts often and just need a bed, I'd highly recommend this one over the other values.

Disney Magic can surely be found staying at All Star Movies. You are surrounded by larger than Life statues, everything is themed and adorable for families of any age. Yes, you may find a cheaper hotel outside of Disney but you will not remain fully immersed in the Disney bubble if you do that. I'm from Mass and I cannot find a resort like this for around the $200.00 price tag. The food court is basic food but a lot to choose from and self serve drink machines for soda, coffee, tea are fantastic. the lobby is cheery and there is a good arcade to hang out in as well. Yes, your means of transportation is only by bus, but who cares, they are decorated Disney buses. The rooms are updated and comfortable, no complaints here! If you want an inexpensive fun hotel choice, this will work for you!

I have stayed in all of the All-Star locations over the years for one trip or another and so this review applies to Music, Movies, and Sports. Look here, buckos! Are the All-Star Resorts the most amazing and luxurious resorts you will have ever stayed in? No, most definitely not. However, as the most value-centric locations on property, they are meant to be exactly that: VALUES. Many people compare the All-Star Resorts to Disney World Motel6. However, as someone who has stayed in many a Motel6 in my time, that is NOT the case. The All-Stars are simplistic, themed cheesily, and have just the basics in terms of food options. However, all of that is exactly why you pay the low price to stay here! The rooms are largely pretty well-maintained (especially with the recent room refurbs), are a decent enough size, and the food options do just what you need them to: sustain you. I have stayed here as a child, as a high schooler, and as an adult, and have enjoyed each experience. If you are like us and prefer to spend as much time in the parks as possible and just have a decent place to lay your head until you go to the next park bright and early the next day, then the All-Stars do exactly what you need them to do. Now, I will say that if possible, we prefer to stay at Pop Century over the All-Star resorts for the sole reason of the Skyliner. However, for a price that lets be honest is not really any higher than many hotels in most places around the country these days (I once stayed in an Econo Lodge that was legitimately concerning for a similar price as a night at the All-Stars), these resorts do the job.

The Assessment

Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen face each other on opposite couches in a still from 'The Assessment'

Section: Special Presentations Director: Fleur Fortune Cast: Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen, Himesh Patel, Minnie Driver, Indira Varria, Nicholas Pinnock, Charlotte Richie, Leah Harvey Deadline’s takeaway: The Assessment is dramatically compelling, especially since in our f*cked-up world today the implausible is suddenly becoming the plausible, and with government interference involving what women can — and can’t — do with their own bodies becoming the law in many states, who is to say a frightening future administration just might take us all down this rabbit hole?

Bonjour Tristesse

Claes Bang, Lily McInerny and Chloe Sevigny in Bonjour Tristesse movie

Section: Discovery Director: Durga Chew Bose Cast: Chloe Sevigny, Claes Bang, Lily McInerny, Nailia Harzoune, Aliocha Schneider, Nathalie Richard Deadline’s takeaway: This in debuting Montreal-based director and screenwriter Durga Chew Bose‘s hands feels more true to Françoise Sagan’s novel and becomes a more complex tale of the nature of female relationships, the mysteries within and their winding paths.

Natalie Abbott in 'The Deb'

Hard Truths

all star movie reviews

Section: Special Presentations Director: Mike Leigh Cast: Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michele Austin, David Webber, Tuwaine Barrett, Ani Nelson, Sophia Brown, Jonathan Livingstone Deadline’s takeaway: Jean-Baptiste carries the film on her shoulders and she is magnificent. If you want to watch acting of the highest order look no further, but if you want to invest in a character worth spending 97 minutes with, look somewhere else.

all star movie reviews

Section: Special Presentations Directors: Scott Beck and Bryan Woods Cast: Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East Deadline’s takeaway: A handsomely devilish Hugh Grant scares up a storm as Mr. Reed in super-smart horror film. The subtle thrill of this deceptively intelligent thrill ride is that, after listening to all of the character’s beautifully cogent arguments, by the end of the movie, it could well be you.

The Last Showgirl

Section: Special Presentations Director: Gia Coppola Cast: Pamela Anderson, Dave Bautista, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman Deadline’s takeaway: This look at the lives of the infamous Vegas showgirls is smart, touching, funny, honest and wise. It’s Pamela Anderson’s moment to shine and, boy does she ever  shine —  right up to an ending that leaves us hopeful.

The Luckiest Man in America

Paul Walter Hauser sits at a game show buzzer in a still from The Luckiest Man in America movie

Section: Special Presentations Director: Samir Oliveros Cast: Paul Walter Hauser, Walton Goggins, Shamier Anderson, David Strathairn, Maisie Williams, Patti Harrison, Johnny Knoxville, Haley Bennett, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Brian Geraghty, Lilli Kay, James Wolk Deadline’s takeaway: With Hauser in charge, this whole scenario keeps us engaged thanks to the actor’s ability to breathe some humanity into these oddball characters. You can see why he couldn’t resist this one.

Nutcrackers

Ben Stiller and the Janson brothers talk in a grocery store in a still from 'Nutcrackers'.

Section: Gala Presentations Director:  David Gordon Green Cast:  Ben Stiller, Linda Cardellini, Tim Heidecker, Edi Patterson, Toby Huss, Homer Janson, Ulysses Janson, Atlas Janson, Arlo Janson Deadline’s takeaway: This is the kind of movie Hollywood used to deliver all the time but has clearly forgotten how to make — until now. Among the inspirations for director David Gordon Green were The Bad News Bears , Six Pack , Uncle Buck and Overboard . You might expect John Hughes was back from the dead, along with this genre.

Jennifer Coolidge and Pete Davidson in Riff Raff movie

Section: Special Presentations Director: Dito Montiel Cast: Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Miles J. Harvey, Emanuela Postacchini, Michael Angelo Covino, Pete Davidson, Bill Murray, Brooke Dillman, P.J. Byrne Deadline’s takeaway: With an outstanding, perfectly chosen cast, this hilarious crime comedy hits all the right marks, a combination of No Country For Old Men and Grosse Point Blank, throw in a touch of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, season it with a bit of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and you have the recipe for a swell time at the movies.

The Salt Path

Unstoppable.

Section: Gala Presentations Director:  William Goldenberg Cast:  Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Lopez, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle, Michael Peña Deadline’s takeaway: You really can’t compare Unstoppable to any inspiring sports drama that has come before, either in terms of what the main subject has achieved in athletics or the obstacles he had to overcome at home. Its fate rests on the ability of star Jharrel Jerome, in making us root for him and to believe .

We Live in Time

Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield in 'We Live in Time'

Section: Special Presentations Director: John Crowley Cast: Andrew Garfield, Florence Pugh, Heather Cranney, Matt Kennard, Sam Kennard, Laura Guest Deadline’s takeaway: Through it all in Nick Payne’s sharply written screenplay we add up the individual pieces we are being presented and get a strong picture of Pugh’s and Garfield’s characters, something that wouldn’t be possible in a more linear structure. If we didn’t believe these two were destined for each other, the whole soufflé would fall. It doesn’t, but the fact Crowley is in charge should guarantee it won’t.

The Wild Robot

DreamWorks Animation's The Wild Robot movie

Section: Gala Presentations Director: Chris Sanders Voice cast: Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry, Ving Rhames, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara Deadline’s takeaway: If Spielberg’s E.T. had been an animated film instead it might resemble what writer-director Chris Sanders has created here: beautiful animation and a smart script that has equal humor, action, heart and lessons to be learned for any age.

William Tell

Section: Gala Presentations Director: Nick Hamm Cast: Claes Bang, Connor Swinndells, Goldhifteh Farahani, Jonah Hauer-King, Ellie Bamber, Rafe Spall, Emily Beecham, Jonathan Pryce, Ben Kingsley Deadline’s takeaway: Some epic stories like this one can get bogged down in details and exposition, but Nick Hamm directs like he’s marching into battle himself, with a key intensity and purpose to make this thing soar with never a dull moment. And Claes Bang really shows his action movie star bona fides.

Things to do | movie review: ‘the killer’s game’ fails to rise above mediocre.

Dave Bautista plays a hitman fending for his life in "The Killer's Game." (Courtesy of Lionsgate)

In theaters this week, the action comedy stars Dave Bautista, but it also boasts Pom Klementieff. The two, of course, portray Drax and Mantis, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are comedic gold in a couple of the big-screen “Guardians” adventures, as well as in the hilarious “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” from 2022.

That pairing, however, isn’t enough to lift “The Killer’s Game” above the level of mediocrity, the tonally challenged flick squandering a vaguely promising first act by devolving into a warmed-over “John Wick” wanna-be.

Helmed by JJ Perry, the director of the similarly uneven 2022 Netflix release “Day Shift,” “The Killer’s Game” plays like two separate movies for much of its roughly hour-and-45-minute runtime. When the beefy Bautista, cast as renowned assassin Joe Flood, shares the screen with veteran actor Ben Kingsley, who portrays his mentor, or co-star Sofia Boutella, who plays his love interest, it fits roughly within reality as we know it and even finds an emotional center; at all other times, it’s an over-the-top kill-fest, with skulls crushed, body parts severed and impalings to spare.

Were those action scenes topnotch — aka “Wick”-level — and not merely passable, that would be a bit more forgivable.

Written by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, who have adapted the 1997 book by Jay R. Bonansinga, “The Killer’s Game” introduces us to Joe in Budapest, where he’s on the job at a more-than-century-old opera house, which on this night is hosting a ballet. He does his job quietly, as usual; nonetheless, machine gun fire follows the “retirement of his target,” and he helps dancer Maize — with whom he’d locked eyes during the performance — out of the building safely.

On the street, she thanks him and worries about the headache he’s having, but when she turns her back, he vanishes.

However, when he returns something to her at a dance studio, she gives him her number and — after Joe workshops a few follow-up texts — they’re out to dinner, where, of course, they hit it off. Soon they’re dating. She continues to dance, and he continues to kill, worrying, increasingly, about how she’d feel if she knew how he makes his substantial living.

However, he’s also seen a doctor, who informs him the test results are dire. He will die in, perhaps, three months, and the best they can do is make him comfortable.

That is not how Joe — who’s always worked within a set of industry rules and has retired only those who’ve deserved it — wants to leave this world. He meets with his handler, Zvi (Kingsley), about directing some money to Maize and, more consequently, having himself assassinated. Zvi agrees to handle the former but not the latter, imploring his friend to fight to the end by visiting more doctors — even a shaman, if necessary.

Enter Klementieff’s Marianna, whose business also is handling assassins. She is more than happy to take $2 million to have Joe killed, as she holds a huge grudge against him.

However, just before the killing window opens, Joe gets a call from his doctor, who says there was a mix-up with the tests and that Joe should be fine.

Unable to convince Marianna to cancel the contract, he soon is faced with a parade of killers — single operatives and groups, most with silly gimmicks and even sillier names. Most aren’t in Joe’s class, but Lovedahl (Terry Crews) proves to be a bit more of a problem.

Bautista (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Dune”) doesn’t have much range, and he isn’t called upon here to use his comedic gifts too often. That said, there’s simply something compelling about his performance, especially when he’s opposite “Gandhi” star Kinglsey or Boutella (“Atomic Blonde,” the “Rebel Moon” movies). It’s measured but not flat.

More time with Bautista and Klementieff would have helped “The Killer’s Game,” as, unsurprisingly, there’s a certain crackle to the limited time the two are in the frame together.

A former professional wrestler, Bautista is, of course, imposing enough to be convincing in the myriad action sequences, most of which are, again, of the forgettable variety — even with all the gruesome deaths. Perry, who has a background in martial arts, hasn’t figured out how to deliver something special in this arena.

“The Killer’s Game” is afoot, but unless you’re looking for what’s only intermittently a pleasant distraction, one heavily seasoned with violence, you need not play.

The movie: ‘The Killer’s Game’

Where: Theaters.

Rated: R for strong bloody violence throughout, language, some sexual material, brief drug use and nudity.

Runtime: 1 hour, 44 minutes.

Stars (of four): 2.

  16. Disney's All Star Movies Resort Review (with Video)

Disney's All-Star Movies resort is arguably the most Disney resort available. 17. Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

Bottom Line. One of Disney's least expensive resorts, the 1,920-room All-Star Movies Resort is one of three adjacent, virtually identical All Star properties. 22. Reviews of All Star Movies Resort (Value Resort)
