My Horse riding Experience

I always used to love horses. I first saw a real horse when I was at the age of eight. I watched horse-themed movies, listened to stories about them, and read books about them. My first ride on a horse will always be memorable. I thought that riding horses would be easy, just like kings on television. Then I realised how mistaken I was.

I was down in Hyderabad with my relatives, and we decided to go horseback riding. We were thrilled and booked four horses at a riding school. The man at the school showed us how to rid the horse. After a while, the horse started moving slowly toward a field. I thought I was wobbling at first because it was my first time, but I kept my balance. The horse picked up the pace. The horse soon began to run faster and faster, and I began to lose control of it. I lost my left stirrup and began to slide down. The next thing I knew, I fell off the horse and landed in the mud. But apart from this, it was the best experience I had.

I have been taking lessons to ride a horse for 7 years, and now I teach others to ride. Horses are my favourite animal. Interesting Facts About Horses

Essay on Horse for Class 6

Horses captivate our imagination with their grace, strength, and intelligence. Existing alongside humans for millennia, these majestic creatures have played a crucial role in the development of societies around the world. Let’s embark on a journey to understand more about horses, their characteristics, and their significance to humans.

Horses are known for their versatility, coming in various breeds that serve different purposes. Some are bred for their speed, like the swift Thoroughbreds used in racing, while others, such as the sturdy Clydesdales, are valued for their power and ability to perform heavy work. Despite these differences, all horses share common traits: they are social animals, possess a keen sense of awareness, and exhibit a flight response to threats, which is a testament to their wild origins.

A horse’s physical attributes are as impressive as its personality. With large, expressive eyes and perky ears, they can see and hear exceptionally well, which helps them detect predators or human companions from a distance. Their coats come in a palette of colors, including bay, chestnut, gray, and palomino, and some even display beautiful patterns like those of Appaloosas or Paints. The mane and tail not only add to their beauty but also serve practical purposes, protecting them from insects and elements.

Horses have a unique way of communicating. They use body language, vocal sounds, and even their sense of smell to convey their feelings and intentions. Observing a horse’s ear movements, tail swishes, and neighs can tell us a lot about what it’s thinking or feeling. This level of sensitivity requires humans to approach horses with respect and patience, fostering a bond based on trust and understanding.

Throughout history, horses have been indispensable to humans. They’ve carried warriors into battle, plowed fields to support agriculture, and transported people and goods across vast distances. Today, while machines have taken over many of these roles, horses still hold a special place in many cultures. They participate in sports such as racing, show jumping, and dressage, showcasing their agility and training. Beyond sports, horses also contribute to therapeutic riding programs, helping individuals with physical and emotional challenges find comfort and confidence.

Caring for a horse involves more than just providing food and shelter. It requires a commitment to understanding their needs and behaviors. A well-cared-for horse needs regular exercise, grooming, and veterinary care to ensure it stays healthy and happy. This responsibility teaches us discipline, empathy, and the importance of nurturing relationships with other living beings.

In conclusion, horses are not just animals; they are companions that enrich our lives with their beauty, strength, and spirit. As we learn from them, we also learn about ourselves and the world around us. Let’s continue to celebrate and protect these magnificent creatures, ensuring they remain a vibrant part of our shared history and future.

Horses are magnificent animals domesticated by humankind for thousands of years. They are majestic, powerful and valuable animals that have helped build civilisations. In the modern-day, the horse is more of an animal of fascination than a work animal. Children love horses, and a horse essay in English would be an absolute delight for them to write. Essay writing is an essential activity that builds language skills. To put together a good write up, they will have to research the topic and formulate their thoughts on the subject. In this article, we present essays on the horse for classes 1, 2 & 3 in short and long formats. Using the examples given below, children can both learn important facts and write their horse essays.

Essays on horses are a fun topic for all children. Any essay on horses can be a good balance of facts and their thoughts about it. Here are some pointers on how to write an essay on horses:

  • A small, one-line essay on horses can contain facts about horses. You can also write about what makes horses your favourite animal.
  • A short essay on horses can start with an introductory paragraph and go on to describe the animal and its uses.
  • Long-form essay on horses should be split into an introductory paragraph that opens with common facts about the horse. It can then continue to talk about their physical appearance, characteristics, habitat and relationship with human beings.

Horses are classified under a category of animals called ‘Ungulates’. These are large animals with hooves. Some more examples of animals with hooves are sheep, deer, cows, pigs, giraffes and elephants. Horses have four powerful legs, two eyes, a nose, ears and a tail. Unlike other ungulates, they don’t have horns. They can run fast for long stretches and are powerful animals.

Humans have long domesticated horses as beasts of burden because of their enormous strength. They were also a fast means of transport before vehicles were invented. Horses can be found in various colours such as white, black, brown or a mix of those. Females carry their young ones for 11 months and give birth to one ‘foal’ at a time. They enjoy living in grassy areas and can live for 25 to 30 years under healthy conditions.

Horses are housed in special enclosures called stables. These days horses are mostly used as an attraction and in sporting events. Their skin, bones and hair are used in various industries.

Children in the lower grades are often asked to write simple one-line essays on horses. They can add some facts and their favourite bits about horses. Here is an example of how to write a 10-line essay on ‘The Horse’ for classes 1 and 2:

  • The horse is my favourite animal. It is such a majestic animal.
  • Horses have bushy tails that are white, black or brown.
  • Horses are powerful and tall animals that can run very fast.
  • Horses can carry a rider or pull a tonga behind them.
  • I loved my first experience of riding a horse. It was so much fun.
  • Horses live in a stable and eat grass.
  • Horses these days are used in sports such as racing.
  • They were used on the battlefield in ancient times by armies.
  • Horses are also loving and friendly animals towards their owners.
  • Horses are found in every part of the world.

Horses are a great topic for short essays. These write-ups are a bit more advanced and lay the foundation for writing long-form essays. Here is an example of how to write a short essay on horses:

The horse is a four-legged mammal domesticated by humans thousands of years ago. They can gallop faster than 60 km/hr, making them the fastest means of transport in ancient times. Horses were also used to haul cargo across great distances when trades had to move across different cities. In the modern-day, horses are still used as a means of transport to pull carts and do heavy work. Horses are also used in the entertainment industry, such as in circuses and racing.

Horses are vegetarians, they mostly eat grass, leaves and berries. They are housed in special enclosures called stables. When trained, they are highly loyal and obedient animals. Many people keep horses as pets on their farms as they are fun animals to ride on. Horses that are well looked after can live up to 30 years and make great companions. They enjoy running free in open spaces and are found in all parts of the world.

People have a fascination with horses because of their majestic looks and athletic abilities.

Long essays are advanced writing exercises for children in the higher grades. The skill is honed by reading plenty of examples and attempting their own write-ups. Here’s an example of a long essay for Class-3.

Horses are four-legged mammals that are commonly found in the cities and countryside. These powerful domestic animals are used as beasts of burden to pull wagons in some parts of the city while they are also kept as pets and show animals elsewhere. Horses belong to a category of mammals called Ungulates which are animals with hooves. They run on four legs and can carry people and goods on their backs for long distances.

Humans domesticated horses some 5000 years ago. They have since played an important role in shaping civilisation by being a major form of transport. Horses also played an important role in armies as they carried soldiers and equipment. In developed countries, horses are mostly used as animals for entertainment at fairs and in the racing business.

Horses in the countryside are mostly kept as pets in stables. Occasionally, people use them as a means of transport to traverse mountainous terrains inaccessible to vehicles. Horses are vegetarian animals that mostly eat grass and other forms of vegetation. If they are looked after very well, horses can live for 25 to 30 years.

Horses are particularly loved by children, as they are popular beasts in fairytales and cartoons. They are also a symbol of royalty and are found in all fairytales and stories. People love collecting figurines of horses and often keep paintings of them for luck. Although horses are no longer used as working animals in most parts of the world, they will remain among us as pet animals.

The compositions above are examples of how to write an essay on this majestic animal. Children will learn basic facts about horses and, in the process, know how to make it a part of their writing. The three essay samples above are meant for different grades. By following the procedure, they will be able to craft their essay on the subject.

I have known my horse for over nine years now, I hope he has many healthy years left. I don’t know how I will feel when he eventually passes away. Essay about horses

As an English teacher myself, it is not uncommon to assign essay assignments. For beginner or intermediate students of English, short essays are often given. I will show you a model of an essay about horses. Feel free to use this as inspiration for your own writing assignments.

Today I’d like to talk about horses and their connection to my life. First I’ll talk about why I got interested in horses in the first place. After that, I’ll discuss the horse that I own now. And finally, I’ll talk about the activities I like to do and the ones I’d like to do in the future.

How I got interested in horses

How I got interested in horses initially, is a bit of a funny story. I was 14 years old and had just started riding lessons near my school. On my second lesson, the horse bolted and threw me off. I fell to the ground and badly twisted my wrist. It was really painful. My parents assumed that after that I’d want to quit horse riding altogether. Something curious happened though. When the horse saw me on the ground in pain, there was a look in its eye. It was almost as if it had sympathy. I have no idea if this is true of horses because I’m not an expert, but I felt some kind of connection there. It inspired me to heal my arm, get back on a horse, and learn to ride properly. Since then I have never looked back. It is my favorite thing to do in my free time.

About the horse I own

Next, I’ll talk about the horse I own. His name is Charlie, and he is a medium-sized brown horse, with beautiful eyes. Now he is about ten years old. He is a very gentle character and rarely appears to get irritated.  I first met Charlie during regular riding lessons, and would often be assigned him for the duration of a lesson. A few years later the riding school was actually closing down, and they were selling everything, including horses! Since I knew the owner a little by now, we talked about that, and I decided to buy Charlie. It was a very big responsibility because looking after a horse isn’t easy. You have to consider not only where they live, but also how to take care of them, what to feed them, and also where to get them medical care when necessary. It is also really expensive . But, I feel like all these issues are worth it when I have the chance to go riding with Charlie.

What I like to do with my horse

I’ll now discuss the activities I like to do involving horse riding, and also the things I’d like to try in the future. I keep Charlie at a nearby stable, which also has a large practice ground. So, most of the time I ride Charlie on the practice ground, on the weekend. I don’t have too much time for this during the week, but occasionally if I finish work early, I’ll go in the evening. About once a month we ride into the hills, surrounding the stables as there are quite a few nice paths. We have to be careful though because some of them are uneven with lots of stones, and that can cause problems for horses’ hooves. In the future, I’d like to experience riding a horse on a beach. It looks like such an amazing experience. It’s a little difficult though because where we live it is pretty far from the beach. I suppose I could organize transportation for Charlie, but again it’d be a big expense, and it might be stressful for him to drive long distances. It might be more practical to hire some horses, nearby the beach. Maybe next summer!

Also, I’d like to try polo in the future, but I don’t think it would be a good idea to do that with Charlie. I think, based on his character, it might stress him. I’ve also no idea, but he might be too old to train in that sport. Probably! Show jumping also looks like a lot of fun, too, but I’d be too scared to try that, I think!

Paragraph about horses and lots more!

Today we have practiced a paragraph about horses for beginners and one for advanced English students. These along with the essay about horses will have given you plenty of English vocabulary to digest, I hope! As always, if there were any words or expressions you were unfamiliar with, look them up. Also, practice making sentences with them! Thanks for reading!

Horses can plan and strategise, new study shows

essay for horse in english

You can lead a horse to water and, it turns out, convince it to drink if the reward is great enough, researchers have found.

A new study has suggested horses are more intelligent than previously thought, having been observed to quickly adapt to a treat-based game with changing rules.

Researchers from Nottingham Trent University (NTU) said they were surprised by how the horses quickly grasped the game, busting previous theories that equine brains respond only to immediate stimuli and are not complex enough to strategise.

The new findings could lead to more humane horse training regimes and improvements to their welfare, researchers said.

The study involved 20 horses, who first were rewarded with a treat for touching a piece of card with their nose.

In the second stage, a "stop light" was introduced, and the rule was changed so that the reward was only given if they touched the card while the light was off.

This did not alter the behaviour of the horses, as they were observed touching the card regardless of the status of the light. That is, until the rules changed for a third time.

In the final stage, researchers introduced a penalty of a 10-second timeout for touching the card while the stop light was on.

The team observed a rapid adjustment to the horses' behaviour now there was a cost to getting it wrong, all of them quickly learning to play by the rules to avoid the timeout, researchers said.

"We were expecting horses' performance to improve when we introduced the time-out, but were surprised by how immediate and significant the improvement was," lead researcher Louise Evans said.

The researchers believe the fact the horses adapted so quickly indicates they understood the rule of the stop light the entire time, but had no reason to follow the rule when there was no consequence for getting it wrong.

The study, published in the Applied Animal Behaviour Science journal shows that horses are more cognitively advanced than they are given credit for, Dr Carrie Ijichi, a senior equine researcher at NTU said.

"This teaches us that we shouldn't make assumptions about animal intelligence or sentience based on whether they are 'built' just like us," she said.

The Man to Bring Supreme Court Reform to the Conversation

Tim walz is not a lawyer—he’s a former civics teacher. that might be just what america needs to understand scotus..

There’s a truly excellent Tim Walz tweet circulating (thanks, Sal Gentile!) about all the things the Minnesota governor will do for you if elected vice president. It includes fixing your carburetor and putting a new chain on your lawn mower (read all the replies, I beseech you), and the upshot is that the former high school civics teacher and football coach is not just a menschy guy who will bring over a hot dish without even being asked but also a regular human who lives in the world. He doesn’t so much have an IVF “policy” as have an IVF daughter . His daughter is in fact the reason he changed his views on guns , in order to work more aggressively to prevent gun violence. Walz is not so much a creature of law and policy as a first responder. And, as People magazine put it when he was tapped Tuesday, Walz thus becomes the first candidate on a Democratic White House ticket since Jimmy Carter ran for reelection in 1980 to not have attended law school. The first nonlawyer in a quarter century! In a year in which the Democrats are putting the Supreme Court on the ballot, that makes him perfectly positioned to talk about what the court has done to ordinary Americans and why it matters.

In recent days alone, one sitting justice of the Supreme Court, in an interview with Fox News Sunday , cautioned President Joe Biden—kinda mobbishly—to “ be careful ” about proposing reforms that include imposing enforceable ethics rules (something all other judges in America must abide by). Justice Neil Gorsuch did this just as the New York Times reported on yet more undisclosed and unreported luxury travel by one of Gorsuch’s colleagues. In a new letter from Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden, of Oregon, we learned that Justice Clarence Thomas took a round-trip flight from Hawaii to New Zealand in November 2010 on Harlan Crow’s private jet but never disclosed it. As the Times points out, Thomas’ disclosure form for 2010 does not list any flights on Crow’s jet, and while he has recently amended other filings to account for luxury travel after the press has unearthed it, this form has never been corrected.

To briefly review, then, the same Supreme Court conservative supermajority that last month granted Donald Trump almost boundless immunity from criminal prosecution and in June took away the government’s power to ensure that water is clean and food and drugs are safe has opted to respond to criticism with yet another warning to “be careful” in even contemplating creating rules, an admonishment that comes alongside yet another brutish shrug from Thomas at the very existence of enforceable ethics guidelines. It’s a foolhardy response to a public that has, according to polling , lost all confidence in the court—but it’s not unremarkable from a branch that sees itself as floating above all law and regulation. As Svante Myrick aptly puts it, this lack of public confidence is about not merely what’s on the docket but the horse it rode in on: “It’s not just the rulings, it’s the recreational vehicle.”

So when Gorsuch and Thomas opt to spend their summers giving the middle finger to an American public that supports ethics reform and term limits by overwhelming margins ( 73 percent and 74 percent , respectively) while labeling such measures to be interference with “judicial independence,” that is certainly a choice. It’s just an objectively dumb one. And in that sense, finally having a nonlawyer on the ticket to speak to what the court has done to ordinary Americans in these few short years is both vital and long overdue.

If we have learned anything at all this year, it’s that far too many lawyers are far too timid and too institutionalized to be comfortable calling out the raft of bad decisions in which precedent is ignored, statutes are misread, and text and history are warped in order to achieve partisan political goals. It’s time to pass the torch.

And if that means that a former civics teacher can take us all to school and, in layman’s terms, about the urgent issues on which Americans can agree the court has screwed us all, well, his timing is perfect: The Supreme Court as currently constituted has eviscerated voting rights. Tim Walz has been a fervent proponent of expanding the franchise . In his first remarks this week as vice presidential candidate, Walz pledged that he and Kamala Harris would strive to create “a place where we settle our political differences not through violence but with our votes.” Americans overwhelmingly believe in democracy over authoritarianism.

The Supreme Court has just gutted abortion rights. Walz has consistently expanded them . The Supreme Court has worked persistently to dismantle public education in favor of sectarian religious schools . Walz has poured a lifetime of energy into bolstering public education . The high court has put lethal guns in the hands of violent Americans. Walz says he “sleeps just fine” with his F rating from the National Rifle Association. The list goes on.

On almost every signature issue Walz brings to the table as governor, the Supreme Court has worked to undermine and devalue public regulation, funding, and expertise. And as our friend Jay Willis keeps reminding us , you need not be an expert on constitutional law and methodological approaches to statutory interpretation to have informed opinions on the Supreme Court. You know who’s going to have informed nonlawyerly opinions on what’s wrong with the Supreme Court? The nominee for the vice presidency. And if the current justices of the Supreme Court believe that the law has no bearing on the ways in which they opt to live their lives, and if the current GOP front-runner for the presidency has lived his entire existence in that very same spirit, well, it may be useful to have someone in the race who not only is palpably and demonstrably affected by the law but can also speak to that in terms the rest of us can relate to and understand.

In a profound way, Walz is an avatar for someone who is attempting to do effective and lawful state governance and is being thwarted by an imperial Supreme Court, which is exactly what will happen to the Harris administration if court reforms are not enacted. Just as the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority stood in the way of Biden’s emergency COVID management, his air-pollution efforts, his college-loan-forgiveness program, and his emergency-room abortion-care regulations, it will joyfully throw a spanner into the Harris administration’s efforts to expand voting rights, protect LGBTQ+ Americans, and prevent climate crises. One doesn’t need Juris Doctor behind their name to call this out. One need only have had a semester or two of high school civics to understand that this is neither “checking” nor “balancing” as anticipated by the Framers but rather an untouchable juristocracy that travels by charter flight and superyacht.

It’s high time that a prominent nonlawyer take a turn at this critique of the Roberts court, and it’s clear that Walz may succeed where all of us polite eggheads have failed. The Supreme Court supermajority represents a democracy crisis that needs to be discussed at barbecues and high school lunch tables, not just pondered in the stacks at Ivy League law schools. If Walz can initiate and embody that conversation over the next 90 days, in terms that chime with swing voters and undecideds, and in language that is playful and irreverent and goofy, it will be the best thing to happen to a Democratic Party that has avoided the topic of court reform for two decades too long. To baldly paraphrase Oliver Wendell Holmes, three generations of pointy-headed lawyers is enough. Let’s have a conversation on court reform from someone who has lived, and taught and governed, under the hand of a court that seems not to care about the real impacts of its decisions.

Gina Gershon appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” and was asked by host Andy Cohen if she ever hooked up with Tom Cruise . The two actors starred together in 1988’s “Cocktail,” where Gershon remembered nearly breaking Cruise’s nose during the filming of a sex scene. The moment just so happened to be Gershon’s first time shooting a love scene in a movie. The actor said Cruise “totally” took care of her while filming.

Gershon, meanwhile, was more of a newcomer to Hollywood movies at the time. Her fame increased in the 1990s with acclaimed performances in “Bound,” which Gershon recently revealed she was told not to do as the movie centered on a lesbian relationship. The actor said on the  “It Happened in Hollywood” podcast that her agents told her specifically that she “can’t play a lesbian” because it would tank her Hollywood career.

“It was a great script and I could tell they were incredible directors, but my agents were like, ‘We will not let you do this movie. You are ruining your career. You will never work again,’” Gershon said, adding that her agents said they could no longer represent her if she took the part.

Who Are the Far-Right Groups Behind the U.K. Riots?

After a deadly stabbing at a children’s event in northwestern England, an array of online influencers, anti-Muslim extremists and fascist groups have stoked unrest, experts say.

Fires burn in a street with a vehicle also alight in front of ambulances and police officers.

By Esther Bintliff and Eve Sampson

Esther Bintliff reported from London, and Eve Sampson from New York.

Violent unrest has erupted in several towns and cities in Britain in recent days, and further disorder broke out on Saturday as far-right agitators gathered in demonstrations around the country.

The violence has been driven by online disinformation and extremist right-wing groups intent on creating disorder after a deadly knife attack on a children’s event in northwestern England, experts said.

A range of far-right factions and individuals, including neo-Nazis, violent soccer fans and anti-Muslim campaigners, have promoted and taken part in the unrest, which has also been stoked by online influencers .

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to deploy additional police officers to crack down on the disorder. “This is not a protest that has got out of hand,” he said on Thursday. “It is a group of individuals who are absolutely bent on violence.”

Here is what we know about the unrest and some of those involved.

Where have riots taken place?

The first riot took place on Tuesday evening in Southport, a town in northwestern England, after a deadly stabbing attack the previous day at a children’s dance and yoga class. Three girls died of their injuries, and eight other children and two adults were wounded.

The suspect, Axel Rudakubana , was born in Britain, but in the hours after the attack, disinformation about his identity — including the false claim that he was an undocumented migrant — spread rapidly online . Far-right activists used messaging apps including Telegram and X to urge people to take to the streets.
