coffee places to do homework near me

Looking for a new coffee shop to try out? Here are three coffee shops in Moscow, Idaho that are worth checking out. They are perfect places to get homework done, catch up with friends, or get in a good book.

1. Bucer’s CoffeeHouse Pub

Location: 201 S Main St, Moscow, ID 83843

Bucer’s Coffeehouse Pub has been around for 19 years as a cozy cafe selling coffee, beer, wine, pastries, and sandwiches. Their coffee is roasted fresh every week in-house. You can even purchase Bucer’s coffee online. Unlike other coffee shops, Bucer’s is also a pub which is why they are opened much later than other coffee spots.

Bucer’s prides themselves on their signature Bucer’s Blend which combines beans from Latin America, East Africa, and Indonesia. The blend is supposed to be nutty, chocolatey, and earthy.

If you are also looking for something fun to do on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, Bucer’s offers an array of live music. You can expect to listen to live music such as jazz, blues, Americana, indie, folk, rock, and many singer-songwriters.  Weekly updates on performers and times will be posted on their Facebook page and Twitter.

2. One World Cafe

Location: 533 S Main St, Moscow, ID 83843

If you like studying at coffee shops, this is the place for you. One World Cafe (OWC) offers seating on two different levels, allowing you to choose a spot where it is quieter and more secluded or a place that’s busier. They also provide free wifi and many outlets for those that choose to study here.

Since their opening in 2005, OWC has relied on Landgrove Coffee, roasted locally in Troy, ID, to provide them with the best beans. You can also purchase their coffee by the pound in store.

Another reason to check out OWC is for their live music and entertainment that occurs on most nights of the weekend. They also host some events during the weekdays. You can see what’s happening on their event calendar on their website.

3. Cafe Artista

Location: 218 S Main St, Moscow, ID 83843

Do you love coffee and art? Well, Cafe Artista is the perfect spot for you! You can sit back and enjoy a nice cup of their locally roasted Kamiak Coffee while being surrounded by local artwork.

Cafe Artista allows local artists to showcase their artwork at their cafe. You can also find a variety of art and jewelry for sale on their consignment shelves. Make a visit to Cafe Artista and enjoy the creative space!

From live music and entertainment to a great study spot to an art lover’s dream, these three coffee shops in Moscow offer different unique experiences for those that want to relax at a local coffee shop.

11 Best Coffee Shops in Moscow

Where is the most invigorating coffee in Moscow, the most airy pastry? What place is a mecca for coffee tourists? What coffee do locals drink? We selected 11 best coffee shops in Moscow  that we take out tourists to on our tours in Moscow. By the way, Russia became a full member of the International Coffee Organization in March 2015. Let’s go celebrate it in one of the coffee shops below!

 Best coffee shops in Moscow

Strictly speaking, it is not a coffee shop – it’s a bakery shop where you can drink coffee. But! Coffee and pastry here are of such quality that they will beat any ten-course dinner.

10. Literary Cafe at the Moscow House of Books

Curl up with a book in a chair in the literary café at the Moscow House of Books on Novy Arbat street. Freshly brewed coffee, hundreds of books on the shelves to read,  relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes you can witness readings and presentations of famous writers and poets.

To tell you the truth, the best Literary Cafe in Russia is in St Pete. Indulge in Russian cuisine on one of our private tours St Petersburg .

9. Ochen Domashnee Cafe (Very Home-Made Cafe)

Warm colors, soft light, good atmosphere – everything to plunge into home comfort. Don’t forget to get a hand-made souvenir for home.

One of the oldest Moscow cafe located in the heart of the capital, on the Arbat street. Sip your coffee and watch literary events, film screenings and musical performances, sitting in one of those soft and colorful chairs.

7. Bulgakov House Cafe

Lokated in Bulgakov House which is famous for its amazing atmosphere: you can pat Behemoth cat, talk on the phone with Woland, indulge in delicious espresso and traditional desserts. Everything is literally saturated here with the spirit of the 1930s: tattered books on the shelves, retro lamps on the tables, vintage interior.

6. West 4 Brew Bar

West 4 makes brewing coffee in siphon a meditative and spectacular process: brown drops falling through the filter paper super slowly. So if are excited to see how your Nicaragua with notes of milk chocolate and hazelnut is progressing, you are welcome to watch the whole process.

5. Double B Coffee&Tea

For coffee sampling here we  recommend Ethiopia – neutral, but lurking mature tones of summer fruits. The drink is served in a glass flask, all power of the drink goes to the flavor – unusual amber hue, soft, fragrant. Warning: do not drink at once, and let it cool down not to miss anything.

Their own coffee shops remind laboratories, which constantly re-invent coffee drinks. There is no kitchen, but there is a large variety of coffee drinks. Apart from the classic espresso-based (cappuccino, latte, ristretto) there is also a large variety of alternative slow ways of brewing: chemex, hario and aeropress.

Double B’s signature drinks are latte with a variety of syrups, espresso with hazelnut mousse “Coffee wind” and raf-coffee, which is prepared on the basis of espresso with the addition of 11% -x cream and vanilla sugar. Worth a try is a lavender raf.

Ingenious method of preparing Australian lungo was peeped from the Australian colleague Matt Perger on World Barista Championship. Double B is the only coffee shop in Moscow that does Australian lungo really well.

Coffee gurus from Double B give some tips for beginning coffee lovers: chemex is served in a recognizable vessel. Coffee from aeropress is usually rich and muddy: for this method very thin paper filters are used. A hario is clean and shiny. Hot coffee is always slightly bitter, it needs to cool down. A good drink with the loss of temperature does not lose flavor. Do not add sugar, give your coffee a chance to become the most memorable experience in your life.

This spring 2015 Double B shares with us their new ideas: latte creme brulee (became a hit overnight), latte basil (with pine nuts), as well as cucumber tea with chamomile, which is so good for you.

Les is a unique place living under its own rules. Freshest salads, delicious sandwiches, tortillas and burritos and in-house desserts, combined with coffee master classes, sculpting, drawing, acting & DJ sets on the weekend make this place extremely popular among locals.

The interior of Les is unpretentious: whitewashed brick walls, wooden planks and menu written in white chalk on a blackboard. This is the only place in Moscow where they roast green coffee beans on the spot. Coffee is prepared only from beans of one variety, this way you can really get a taste of each type of coffee.

3. Upside Down Cake Co

This is not only airy cupcakes and cakes, but also good-quality coffee. Espresso, cappuccino, latte – all coffee beverages are prepared from freshly roasted coffee beans.

The menu consists of 11 kinds of cupcakes and 16 kinds of cakes. Here you can also have breakfast porridge and soup for lunch. Dishes and pastries prepared by adapted American recipes Chef Isaac Correa. Almost half of the menu is updated every day, so it’s ideal for regular visits.

Highly recommended is aeropress Ethiopia Bokassa. Quite strong, completely black, no weaker than espresso, but with muted bitterness and bright grapefruit tartness. This coffee is ideal for wakening up.

2. Coffeemania

Apart from coffee and desserts, here you can get top notch breakfast, lunch and dinner. Coffee from Coffeemania is repeatedly called the most delicious and expensive in the city. This is the only Moscow coffee place with presentable interiors and high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers, classic leather sofas and an open kitchen. At the same time,  there is no standard design for each new coffee house. Each Coffeemania is unique.

Coffeemania has a reputation of a trend setter, they are long known for their Chemex. Worth a try is Chemex brewed mono-sorts of highland Colombia – coffee gets a lovely rounded taste and loses all coffee sharpness: no bitterness and smoke, only chocolate with walnut.

The best place to have a cup of coffee in that area. Always friendly service, wifi and smiling people

Actually I would say unusually good, real Italian espresso, which is not what you normally expect. Place is nicely decorated and prices are OK. They also have pastries and cakes which looks OK. Not worth a detour, but if you pass by...

I'm gonna be short as there's a detailed review here. They carry the best assortment and make the best coffee in the city. You will not want to appoint meetings with your colleagues or friends anywhere else. You will realize that famous Kofemania is a fraud. You will like this place once and for good. Have a nice coffee! (There's another coffee shop of this brand in Sretenka too).

"If we don't gotta it, you don't wanna it" says one of the witty mottos of Coffee Bean in Moscow. After several years of visiting this chain coffee shops in Moscow I have to admit that I've failed to desire something they could not offer. The vast range of coffee blends varies from snobbish Kopi Luwak to the house blend No. 5 as elegant and tasteful as the legendary perfume. The dynamic and creative baristas are going out of the way to please the customer and may always tailor any of the diverse coffee drinks to a guest's exquisite taste. It was the case of my most favourite Mocca subtly flavoured with ginger and cinnamon on a cold autumn afternoon when I could not chose between my traditional No.5 and a hot chocolate. The deserts and sandwiches are also nice. To my mind the place can boast of one of the best Tiramisu in Moscow, so properly it's done. Though it is a chain each coffee shop has its own personal touch: one may resemble of a stylish nest of London hipsters with MacBooks in their lap, the other is more like a city Viennese cafe, but wherever you decide to plug you foot in you will definitely find youself in a relaxed laid-back atmosphere where the guests are having rest whilst the hosts provide for their satisfaction. A few informative points to draw a line to probably a bit too emotional review: - Coffee Bean is a self service cafe: you make an order at the counter and then pick it up when it's ready. Isn't it nice to have no overdiligent waiter interfiring amidst your enjoying coffee in perfect exclusion of your fellow-men or whilst you are in the middle of a creative argument? ;-) - The balance between the price and the quality is very accurate for Moscow, i.e. the price includes decent coffee, but no tax for posh frills. - overall it is a very "European" place in Moscow. AS you might have guessed I simply love it. :-) Hope the review will be helpful. Enjoy your stay in Moscow and see you in Coffee Bean one day/

The 7 Best Coffee Shops in Moscow

In this cosmopolitan capital of Russia, Moscow has a bevy of different coffee shops that each has its own character, charm, and coffees. Depending on your preference for the type of coffee, you’re most likely to find a shop that serves your favourite coffee in Moscow.

Check out the very best coffee shops in Moscow.

The 7 Best Coffee Shops in Moscow, How do these rankings work?

1. One Teaspoon Cafe

1. One Teaspoon Cafe

One Teaspoon Cafe is a smaller cafe that has a vintage and chic vibe going on. With such an interesting ambiance, enjoying one of their coffees in this cafe is easy to do.

Try a delicious cup of their cappuccino at One Teaspoon Cafe.

2. David B. Cafe

2. David B. Cafe

The David B. Cafe refers to the legendary rock star, David Bowie, and is about as strange of a connection you can have in Moscow. But yet, the coffees here at David B’s are sublime and are known to pair extremely well with one of their croissants.

Definitely get the croissant and a Flat White here and admire the David Bowie memorabilia on the walls.

3. Nude Coffee Wine & Bar

3. Nude Coffee Wine & Bar

Nude Coffee Wine & Bar is a shop that double dips between serving great coffees by day and wines by night. This bar is known for having a much stronger drip coffee than most places so come here if you need a strong one.

Get the strong drip coffee here at Nude and perhaps pair it with a slice of their apple pie.

4. SOS Cafe

4. SOS Cafe

SOS Cafe is a cafe that screams of Americana because they also make fresh smoothies, hot dogs, and burgers here. This kitschy place is on the smaller side so you might need a reservation to come here.

Try one of their Instagram-famous Pink Coffees here at SOS.

5. Vogue Cafe

7. Kooperativ Chernyy

When it comes to finding a coffee shop that cares very deeply about the process of creating coffees that are full of rich flavours, that would be Kooperativ Chernyy. You won’t just get another cup of coffee here as they put a lot of thought into the beans they source to the roasting process.

For that perfect cup of java made with some serious Russian love, come to Kooperativ Chernyy.

COFFEE HOUSE, Moscow - Nikolskaya St. 11/13, Boulevard Ring - Menu & Prices - Tripadvisor

I left Russia and moved to Florida. These were the 5 biggest culture shocks.

  • Elena Brandt grew up in Moscow and moved to Florida in 2018 with her husband.
  • She is studying for her PhD at Florida State University and now works as a startup founder.
  • Brandt found the States' limited maternity leave and willingness to apologize surprising.

Insider Today

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Elena Brandt, the Russian-born founder of Besample, about her move to the United States. The following has been edited for length and clarity.

In 2017, I worked as a communications manager for Yandex, a tech company in Moscow, where I had lived since birth. I wasn't excited about the direction of Russia's political regime, so I applied for an O-1 visa to the U.S.

O-1 visas are for people with extraordinary talent to temporarily live in the US and pursue that skill.

While waiting for my visa, I met my future husband. He was a Russian-born economist teaching at Florida State University who had returned to Moscow for vacation.

Our relationship progressed quickly; in 2018, I got my visa and moved to Florida. We got married the same year, my husband adopted my two-year-old daughter, and we had two more children, one in 2019 and another in 2021.

I got into a PhD program at Florida State University, but my O-1 visa meant I couldn't teach to get my tuition waived. I spent my savings on tuition and applied for residency through marriage.

In grad school, I founded a sci-tech company 'Besample' aimed at bringing global diversity to U.S. behavioral research.

In the five years since moving to Florida, I've started a business, had two children, and worked through grad school. I've encountered many amusing and bewildering culture shocks, but these were the most prominent.

Ownership culture in America

I remember ordering a muffin at a local coffee shop and the barista said, "Sorry, I don't have a muffin, how about a scone?"

I'd never heard this phrase from a Russian server. They would say, " There is no muffin," full stop.

The barista spoke as if he owned the place. He even tried to upsell. I later realized this was capitalism's ownership culture.

Just over a century ago, the Soviet government nationalized land and businesses, abolishing private property. Russians don't speak like they own their land, crops, or stuff. When people don't own where they work, or what they do, they don't care about work.

There's a famous anecdote about a Soviet leader Nikita Khruschev visiting a corn farm in Iowa. Khrushchev was shocked that a farmer and his three sons were working the entire farm. In the USSR, he said it would take 400 people to do the same amount of work. Ownership is key to staying motivated and working hard. The Soviet land had been nationalized, so workers didn't care.

In America, people are encouraged to take ownership of their work and many start their own companies. A regular barista acts like an owner because one day he could be.

Related stories

Since the 1990s, you can start a business in Russia, but the government will always bite off a piece . So in a way, people still don't own what they're working on. They're not in control and they don't care, stuff just happens: there is no muffin.

Americans admit when they're wrong

Admitting a mistake is generally seen as a weakness in Russia; people rarely apologize. Living in America, I learned admitting mistakes is a sign of self-confidence, not weakness.

My statistics professor was explaining an equation on the board, when he suddenly took a pause and said, "I know why you guys don't get it: it's because I'm teaching you wrong!" I was shocked. "Is he not afraid of losing his status?" I thought.

However, the opposite happened. His good-natured self-deprecation made him look even more confident. The class seemed to appreciate the instructor acknowledging his faults and correcting them.

This is normal in America, whereas in Russia maintaining your status is critical.

Once I got used to Americans saying "I'm sorry," even when they weren't wrong, I started adopting the same practice.

Troubleshooting conflicts is a lot easier when you're ready to admit your wrongs rather than become defensive. I wish more Russians knew it.

Russia has a much better deal for working mothers

Russia offers working mothers more support than in the U.S.

In America, gender equality is widely discussed, but the government has done little to address how a lack of maternity leave is holding women back. Women in the States can take six weeks of maternity leave – at their employer's discretion.

Russia is considered more patriarchal than the US, but Russian mothers can take 140 days of paid leave . Also, a woman's employer must keep her position available if she chooses to return.

Some US mothers have no break from work during sleepless nights and postpartum recovery because there is no national subsidized leave .

Women are forced to choose between children and their careers.

When my third baby was born in 2021 in Florida, I was working part-time and teaching at a university. I could only take unpaid leave for two weeks. My husband and I could not afford to take a longer break from having two sources of income.

I was typing emails with one hand and breastfeeding my baby with the other, for eight hours a day.

Luckily, both my commitments were remote due to COVID-19, so I could spend physical time with my baby. For American moms at regular 9-to-5 jobs, this must be a nightmare.

When I had my first child in Russia, I may have been a single mom short of resources, but I had the most precious resource in the world: time with my newborn. American women deserve it, too.

Russia also has free early childcare. In the US, it's crazily expensive with few affordable alternatives.

Americans are more financially educated

I noticed retirees in America seemed much happier and healthier than the elderly in Russia because they had planned for retirement.

In my lifetime, Russia's experienced two economic upheavals where the national currency was devalued. It doesn't make sense to invest long-term because you can't be sure you get a return on investment.

Most Russians live like there's no tomorrow, spending rather than saving money. Out of my all friends in Russia, I only know a handful of people who ever saved for retirement.

In Russia, you're defined by what you can show off. Most people will buy expensive clothes and gadgets before investing in education or their future. The only exception is real estate because the market is relatively stable.

Americans are great savers in contrast. People have personal IRAs and savings accounts because they trust their retirement system.

People even think about their income differently. Russians wouldn't know what their annual salaries are because they consider their salary in months.

After moving to the States, I got a retirement account, started thinking of my wages in yearly terms, and pictured my life 30 years ahead for the first time.

School zoning in the States is a classist system

When we were buying a house in Florida, I was surprised by how much real estate prices are tied to school zones .

If you want your kids to go to a good public school, you have to be able to afford house prices in that district. In our experience, housing prices tripled between districts with good and not-so-good schools.

We got lucky with pre-COVID mortgage rates and living in Florida. I can't imagine how this could work in more competitive regions like New York.

In America, the quality of your child's education plays a huge role in their future. The experience showed me school zoning is where much of American inequality stems from. In Russia, you can send your children anywhere for school , according to the Constitution .

In the U.S., education choice is severely limited to where children live, which, in turn, is determined by their parents' wealth. I realized a child's school zone is the real inherited American privilege.

Being able to discuss issues is worth the crazy cultural differences

Moving to Florida has been full of cultural differences. Many were fascinating, and some were appalling, but the best thing about America is that we can freely talk about what needs to be fixed.

In Russia, you can't speak freely, especially these days. The country has a lot of problems, but people must say they're happy with the regime if they want to retain their jobs – and even their safety.

You can be jailed in Russia for expressing anti-war in Ukraine sentiments. I personally know people who were arrested for stepping up for the peace.

I'm happy to be in a country where you have freedom of speech.
