Model Answer 1:

I have visited several cities before, and they were all amazing in their own rights. However, there was one city which, I think, should be specifically mentioned here because I was not too sure about visiting it until the last moment. In fact, I heard a lot of negative comments about this particular city before visiting it about a year ago, but I was proved wrong when I actually visited it.

The name of this city is “Milan”. I think that we all know where the city of Milan is. But, still, just to refresh our memory a little about this city, it is one of Italy’s major metropolis cities in its northern Lombardy region.

Milan is also a major financial hub which is known for its high-end shops and restaurants. And, of course, it is known as the capital of the fashion world also. Anyway, I visited this city recently, about a few months ago.

Contrary to popular belief, Milan has a lot of wonderful and modern architectures for a city which was bombed rather heavily during the Second World War. Besides, visiting Lake Como, which was only an hour (by train) from Milan, was one of my best experiences ever. In fact, Lake Como, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful places on earth with its mountains and colourful villas.

Milan has also some of the most beautiful and green public parks in the world, in my opinion. One of my favourite green spaces in Milan was the Library of Trees, which contains more than 100 species of trees. However, there is one thing that I didn’t like about Milan was that it was rather expensive.

Anyway, all in all, I would say that visiting Milan was a great experience. Even though it is a bustling city with a lot of activities, I think that there is a lot of life in it and people in its different neighbourhoods tend to enjoy their life to the fullest. I think that I would go back to visit that city again in future.

“Sydney” is undoubtedly my favourite city among the cities I have visited so far. Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales of Australia. This city is situated on the bank of the Tasman Sea and has around 4.6 million people. I have visited this city in 2008 after I finished my graduation and loved my stay there. Sydney had many attractive natural areas, botanic gardens, parks, and high rising buildings. This city has many heritage-listed buildings that attract tourists and visitors. The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognised landmarks in Australia and is a great place to visit.

This city is known for the dynamic cultural hub and it has many famous museums, galleries and art galleries as well. Because of the great architecture, warm weather and hundreds of tourists attraction more than 11 million international and domestic tourists visit this city each year. I had been there for about 15 days and I really enjoyed everything about this city. I stayed at a 20 storied hotel that offered a really amusing view. The transportation system of the city is better than many other cities and I could have been maintaining the track and time of my schedule because of that. I loved being at open & wide spaces in the gardens and parks. People are welcoming and friendly there. A tourist can get necessary help both from people and the authority and can roam easily without any interruption. I saw 2/3 art museum and some cultural festivals and those were awesome.

There are so many places to be, so many things to do in Sydney. Some of the attractive places are Royal Botanic Garden, Hyde Park, Queen Victoria Building, Sydney Townhall, Macquarie Lighthouse, Australia Square, Sydney Opera House and so on.

I had a tremendous vacation in Sydney and I liked most of the places there and I enjoyed so much that I did not even notice how quickly the 2 weeks scheduled time has passed.

Tips for Answering this Cue Card Topic:

Talk about any city that you have really been to and tell the details of this city as well as your experience of this visit. Do not just talk about any random city that you have never been to as this might arise question to the examiner’s mind. If you have not been to a foreign country ever, talk about any city in your country.

Mention the following points to make it a good answer:

1. Name of the city & country it is in. 2. If there is more than one city with the same name (which might be the case in many countries) clearly state which one you have visited. 3. Give the reason for your visit (Travel, visiting someone, tour, business visit etc.) 4. Who was with you? 5. When you planned to visit this city and when you actually visited it. 6. If you have visited this city more than once, try to describe your latest visit experience there as that would give more accurate information about this city. 7. Things to watch, do and other activity of this city. Famous places of this city and tradition of this city. 8. Mention your attachment and liking of this city. Give some reasons why you like this city.

If the topic is “ Your favourite city ”, you should slightly change the way of speaking about this topic. Start by saying that this is a city that offers many recreations, tourists’ activity and your memory regarding this city. Also, mention the historical and traditional culture of this city and why it is a good city to visit and stay.

I am an avid traveler and have visited many cities across India and other countries for work and leisure purposes. My favorite city out of the ones that I have visited is Sydney. A major city in Australia, it is the state capital of New South Wales. It is situated on the southeastern coast of Australia near the Tasman Sea and is home to around 4.6 million people. I traveled to this city in 2013 after my high school for a vacation.

This city has many attractions and there are many reasons for my fondness. A veritable collection of beaches, natural areas, botanic gardens, parks, and high rising buildings add to its beauty. This city has many heritage buildings and landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, Harbor Bridge, and the observatory.

It is known for the dynamic cultural hub and houses many famous museums and art galleries with great architecture. The weather is pleasant all round the year, and the views are beautiful.

The best part is the city planning and public services. I found the transportation services to be affordable and highly effective. The city is very well planned and it is very easy to commute or reach different places. People there are friendly and welcoming, and help the tourists with many things.

The city is lively and vibrant and offers a lot of other things to do apart from sightseeing. In my limited time there, I tried to visit as many places as possible, and soaked in the beauty of the marvelous places that I went to. I would visit this city again whenever I get an opportunity.

Where should I live? I spent 3 years searching for the 'perfect city'

It was the end of another summer, and I was exactly where I’d been three years before. I’d spent those years searching for our next home, sifting the pros and cons of some 40 cities in the process while real estate prices around the country skyrocketed. I was out of ideas. What once seemed like a blessing — being able to choose where I wanted to live — now felt like a burden. And yet I couldn’t give up.

Like plenty of adults, where I lived was always tied to where I worked. Our first apartment after college was in the city where my husband happened to land a job. The next city? Another job. Those were the rules.

Then we both started working remote five years ago, and the rules changed. It was like the world opened up. For the first time, we could live wherever we wanted (at least, in the U.S. since we both work for U.S. employers). Any city, ours for the choosing … but which one?

And so began a multi-year search for where to live — an agonizing, arduous yet blithely optimistic quest for not just any city, but the perfect city.

I can’t be the only person obsessed with this. Searches for “ best city in the U.S. ” have tripled in the past five years, correlating with the rise in people working from home . Then there’s the bevy of annual “top places to live” lists that roam the internet. Livability , Money , Niche and Rocket Homes each recommend the best cities to settle down in, all with comforting data-backed analyses that I didn’t look too deep into, opting instead for browsing the listicles with their dazzling array of choices. Covington, Kentucky. Boulder, Colorado. Madison, Wisconsin. There are even curated lists for families (ask Fortune ) and young professionals ( Forbes has the scoop). I scoured them all with type A enthusiasm, certain the answer to my geographic dilemma was behind the next click.

After all, I didn’t want much. Just affordability, diversity, good weather, low crime, plenty of parks and bike trails, a strong job market, cultural opportunities and easy access to other cities and countries. Totally reasonable.

But for three years, I couldn’t find anything better than where I was. At the time we were based in Tampa, a metro area that pops up all over those “best city” lists. When people asked me why I wanted to move, I struggled to put it into words. But I felt it every time I looked out my living room window at those shadeless palm trees — like living in a postcard of last year’s summer vacation.

I can easily tell you all the reasons Tampa is an amazing place to live. It has a vibrant food and arts scene, no snow, no state income tax, and Disney World and award-winning beaches practically in your backyard. It should have been perfect, but it was never home. Like when you’re dating someone who’s smart and funny and nice and everything but, somehow, not for you.

Each year, I said this would be the year we moved. Each year, I renewed our lease, doubling down on my hunt for perfection. I looked at cities in Washington with great hiking nearby, but they were out of budget. I considered various cities in Indiana and Ohio for their low cost of living but ultimately discarded the entire Midwest (my apologies to all Midwesterners) as too remote for our tastes. We drove up to Tennessee (twice) and Georgia, flew to Oklahoma City, and visited every major city in Florida with a population over 100,000. Nothing fit. I briefly contemplated getting a life coach to talk us through it until the $6,000 price tag quoted on a Zoom call nearly knocked me off my kitchen table chair.

Then, on a whim last November, we took a weekend trip to Raleigh, North Carolina. I had decided to write a story on things to see and do in town. Fall color was at its peak — reds and golds I seldom saw, brightening the parks and greenways. We explored, ate locally sourced food and went for walks in the faint autumn crispness, just brisk enough to flirt with the idea of a sweater. Somehow, I knew I’d found it. Home. We moved to Raleigh this spring.

And we love it. Raleigh is the Goldilocks of American cities, a term I heard from one local that sums it up to a tee. Not too big or too small. Not too hot or cold. In between the mountains and the ocean. Progressive and diverse, yet surrounded by small towns and farmland. Of course, the city isn’t without downsides: soaring summer humidity, higher taxes than Florida, and honestly, I’d prefer those mountain waterfalls a couple hours closer. But all things taken together, like in the fairy tale, it’s just right.

I’d like to say it was careful analysis that got us here. Sure, I checked the stats: home prices, average temps, crime rate and the number of international destinations with direct flights from the Raleigh-Durham airport (nine, if you’re curious). And it’s true Raleigh comes in sixth in the recently released Best Places to Live list from U.S. News & World Report — third last year when I was still searching.

But it’s not about that. What I was looking for wasn’t ever going to rank in a spreadsheet. It’s more elusive yet, paradoxically, more tangible. It’s the summer sunflower fields and the university that makes its own ice cream and the grazing horses I pass on my drive in, even though we’re only 15 minutes from downtown. It’s leaving behind those relentless palm trees, trading up for the sprawling shady oaks that give the capital its understated nickname, City of Oaks.

Perhaps it’s not perfect. But it’s perfect for us, for right now, and that’s enough.

Springfield, Ohio, is at the center of one of the most fraught issues in this election. GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance wrote that “Haitian illegal immigrants” are “draining social services and generally causing chaos.” Springfield has seen its population grow by over 20 percent in four years, driven mostly by immigration. William Brangham visited the city to understand how it is coping.

Today the small city of Springfield, Ohio, found itself at the center of a fraught election-year issue, immigration.

Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance claims Haitian migrants in Springfield are — quote — "draining social services and causing chaos." He's also repeated a baseless rumor, already debunked by city officials, about pets being abducted and eaten, a story amplified by right-wing media and Elon Musk online.

Geoff Bennett:

Over the last four years, Springfield has seen its small population grow by over 20 percent, driven almost entirely by immigrants.

William Brangham recently went to Springfield to understand how the city is coping.

William Brangham:

The sounds of Haitian Creole carrying across soccer fields, in grocery stores, in restaurants dishing up the popular Haitian street food pate kode. It's striking hearing all this in the heartland of the United States Springfield, Ohio.

Springfield is a small, blue-collar city with a familiar story. Much of the factory work left decades ago, and the residents followed. A community of more than 80,000, emptied out to less than 60,000, that is, until the last few years.

Wes Babian, Springfield Resident:

Our churches, we see new people.

In the pews?

Wes Babian:

Yes, absolutely.

Wes Babian was the pastor at First Baptist church for almost 20 years.

For years, we have lost people. But you hope somebody else will come and take their place. That hasn't happened here.

Because there are folks from Haiti who are coming to church.

Luckens Merzius, who among his many other jobs mans the sound board for Sunday services, is one of those new Haitian members.

Luckens Merzius, Springfield Resident:

Why Springfield?

Of all places.

Merzius with his wife and daughter were among the first Haitian families to arrive here in 2018.

Luckens Merzius:

I got a decent job when I was in Haiti. And then to make a difficult decision to leave, it wasn't easy.

The reason they left is their home country is disintegrating. Protests and increasing violence in the Caribbean nation culminated in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021.

Since then, the country spiraled. Armed gangs currently control 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince. Merzius is one of the estimated 731,000 Haitian immigrants now living in the United States.

I got my brothers and sisters, my mother still living there. I'm always thinking about my family in Haiti.

Because of that violence, the U.S. granted temporary protected status to Haitians in the U.S., giving them limited-time permission to live and work here. TPS was then expanded by the Biden administration.

Merzius says he came to Springfield for the same reason most Haitians did. He heard that housing was cheap and jobs were plentiful.

Jamie McGregor, CEO, McGregor Metal:

It started slowly. We had an application pool that was a little bit different.

People coming to work here.

Jamie McGregor:

People looking for jobs.

What he is welding here, again, are welded axle components.

Jamie McGregor is the CEO of McGregor Metal, which makes welded parts for the auto and farm industries. Right now, about 10 percent of his work force is Haitian, over 30 employees.

I wish I had 30 more. Our Haitian associates come to work every day. They don't have a drug problem. They will stay at their machine. They will achieve their numbers. They are here to work. And so, in general, that's a stark difference from what were used to in our community.

McGregor acknowledges the sudden arrival of so many new immigrants is a challenge on multiple fronts, but he believes this is partly how the Industrial Midwest can regrow

We want more jobs in our community. And in order to fill those jobs, some jobs need to be people who are not originally from here.

Rob Rue, Mayor of Springfield, Ohio: There's things in the last five years that have really changed and has been a forward improvement for Springfield. But this is taxing the resources of the city.

Springfield's Mayor Rob Rue says he was cautiously optimistic when the first Haitians settled in town. But then their numbers quickly rose. The city estimates 12,000 to 15,000 Haitians are here now.

The infrastructure of the city, our safety forces, our hospitals, our schools. Springfield is a close community and has a big heart. But at the same point, we have had this influx that has taxed all these services.

The number of students needing English language help has quadrupled in five years. Translators at the local health center cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

And last year was the busiest year on record for the fire department. But it seemed that, for the community at large, the increase in immigration and its stresses largely flew under the radar.

A lot of that changed last August. It was the very first day of school, and a school bus full of kids was coming down this road. A driver coming in the other direction came around that bend, said he was blinded by the sun. He clipped the bus and the bus ended up in this ditch.

We begin with breaking news. Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene of a deadly school bus crash.

Dozens of children were injured and 11-year-old Aiden Clark died. When the driver was revealed to be a Haitian immigrant without a U.S. license, things erupted.

The majority of the Haitians here are low-skilled and thy illiterate.

I want to know who is busing them in. Who is responsible for that and who can stop them from coming?

William Monaghan, Springfield Resident:

Our concerns don't have anything to do with racism. They have to do with lack of affordable housing.

For the past few months, Springfield resident and former journalist William Monaghan has been a fixture at city commission meetings. He helps run a Facebook group that's become a clearinghouse for locals' concerns about the Haitians, where people complain about everything from reckless driving to higher rents.

Do you shop in Springfield? No. Do you drive the streets of Springfield? No. Do you consider Springfield your home? No. Are your kids safe in school? No.

William Monaghan:

They're talking about, I got kicked out of my house because the rent went way up. My insurance has gone way up. I don't feel safe in the stores anymore. With maybe a couple exceptions, it's never a race issue. They want to make it sound like a racial issue so they can demonize us and ignore our concerns. But these are valid concerns.

I have the same concerns that you as moms and dads, grandparents, aunt and uncles have.

I won't say this is a Haitian crisis. This is an immigrant crisis. It's the fact that we have so many people here and we have a culture clash.

Mayor Rue says reckless driving is an issue, but there's been no uptick in crime related to the immigrant population. But with so many new arrivals, he says the city needs help bolstering basic infrastructure.

We say we need help, basically for translation services and safety forces. That's what were looking at. Our hospitals need reinforcement.

In the meantime, local nonprofits like St. Vincent de Paul have stepped in. Here, people learn how to apply for jobs and how to navigate the city's computer system.

In a building across town, Viles Dorsainvil runs a support center that helps Haitians integrate into American life. He understands why so many new arrivals into an established community can create conflict.

Viles Dorsainvil, Haitian Community Help and Support Center: They have the right to express themselves, because we are living in a free speech world.

But it is from the Haitian side who are trying to find jobs and opportunities, where it is from the locals are complaining because too many people are coming here. It is human being. We are expressing ourselves, the way we feel, but at the end of the day, we have to find a way out, to live together.

But he says many Haitians would also return home if the violence subsided.

Do you hope one day to go back to Haiti?

Yes, hopefully. I can't wait hopefully to go back to Haiti, because I am dreaming Haiti.

Dreaming Haiti, meaning at night while you're dreaming, you are there?

Yes. Yes, I'm there, so still working, still trying to integrate and then facing with challenges all the time in the U.S., but I'm also dreaming of my country.

For now, the residents of Springfield, old and new, will continue writing the latest complicated chapter in the story of immigration in America.

Model Answer:

Some like to call it the city of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli while the others like to call it the “city of art”. I just call it “the city of Florence” which is unique in every sense. In case, if you didn’t know, this is the most beautiful city in Italy which I was lucky enough to have visited almost 4 years ago.

With a population of about 400,000 and area of 103 square kilometres, Florence, one of the most fascinating cities in the world, is the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region which is just waiting to be explored by the nature lovers.

One has to love visiting this city since there are just too many things to do and see. From art exhibitions to live musical shows, events that celebrate wines, good food and culture, art and history, you name it, and the city of Florence has it for you.

Being considered as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture, one is sure to be amazed to see one of the most iconic sights in Italy called “Duomo” which is a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome. How about visiting The Galleria Dell’Accademia that displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture? Perhaps, you could also visit the Uffizi Gallery that displays Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and Da Vinci’s “Annunciation?

Anyway, I just loved visiting this city because of its stunning natural beauty and architecture. Taking a long walk on the Altrarno (meaning “the left bank of the Arno River”) and the Centro Storico (the historical area around the “Duomo”) were just amazingly refreshing for me. Then, of course, the climb up to Michelangelo Park in Florence to capture the entire city Florence at sunset with my little camera was simply brilliant and outstanding. However, what I liked most about walking in Florence, full of history, is the possibility of “getting lost” which would allow me to visit places, like galleries and arts centre, which I wouldn’t otherwise visit. But, when I was too tired and too lazy to walk, I could simply relax into a nice and cosy place of drinking coffee while viewing and enjoying the stunning architectural marvels of Florence. Florence is a magical city where you will find beauty wherever you look.

Introduction

Being a frequent traveler, I have visited many cities, one of which is an alluring beauty.

Where the city is

The city is in northern India, and its name is Shimla . People call it The Queen of Hills.

How do you know the city

I stay 90 km from this city, and whenever I have free time, I go there.

What buildings does the city have

Although the city has many buildings, the most famous is The Christ Church, the most notable landmarks in Shimla. It is a gospel truth that It is the second oldest church in North India, and its striking feature is its neo-Gothic architecture.

The second most famous building is The Jakhu Temple. It is an ancient temple of Lord Hanuman. It is at a height on the Jakhu Hill and offers an incredible view of Shimla city. It’s known for its massive Hanuman statue.

What it is famous for

Shimla is famous for its climate. Many tourists come to this place in summer to get relief from the scorching heat, and in winter, they come to experience the snowfall.

Apart from this, Shimla is famous for its educational institutions. It has many boarding schools and colleges where people from all over India come to get quality education.

Shimla City is beautiful for two reasons. Firstly, nature has blessed it with an alluring touch, and its natural landscape is a must-watch. Secondly, the administration has left no stone unturned to keep it clean and pristine. Due to this, the city streets are a sight for sore eyes

Being a travel freak, I have been to many cities; one of them is an alluring beauty, and hence, it is worth discussing.

How did you know the city ?

The city that stole my heart is Mohali. I know this because I go there with my family every weekend to spend some gala time.

The city has some renowned buildings. Firstly, it has the famous Sikh Temple named Singh Shadeehan, where devotees from all parts of the world come to seek blessings from the almighty.

The other prominent building is North India’s biggest shopping mall, “V R Punjab.”It is spread over 22 acres, and it’s the first choice of shopaholics who come here to buy the latest trendy and quirky designs. Moreover, it has a big theatre and gaming zone. The other striking feature of this mall is the multi-cuisine food court, where people from all walks of life can pamper their appetite by eating mouth-watering delicacies.

It is famous for its international airport, where people of Punjab and other neighbouring states come for international travel.

Apart from this, it is famous for the “I S Bindra cricket stadium,” located in the heart of the city , where every year, national and international matches are played, and various renowned players come to exhibit their cricketing talent.

Moreover, the city has become a melting pot where people from different corners of the world come and rub shoulders together to earn a livelihood.

And explain why you think this city is beautiful.

This city is beautiful for many reasons. Firstly, it is a planned city, so the administration has a foolproof system for waste management. Moreover, the drainage system is also best, so the drains do not get clogged. On weekends the people from neighbouring states come for enjoyment and paint the town red .

Moreover, there is a lot of greenery because the administration leaves no stone unturned to plant trees in all vacant spaces.

Lastly, the resident welfare associations also keep the city neat and clean.

Well, I have visited a lot of beautiful cities, but here I would like to talk about one of the famous cities the name of the city is Chandigarh. It is also known as a green city and the cleanest city in the world. This city is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, north of New Delhi and southeast of Amritsar and the capital of Haryana and Punjab.

I learned about this city in the news, and after that, I searched for this city on the internet. At that time, I gained more knowledge regarding this city. Furthermore, in this city, most visitor attractions like the Rose Garden, Rock Gardens, and other facilities are available. This city is primarily famous for influencers of singers because most of the singers live in this city, and the city is a reliable platform for budding singers to launch their careers.

And after that, shopping facilities are also good in this city, like complexes and substantial significant buildings like some malls and other sectors where people buy clothes and also in the daily routine. After that, the city is mainly known for the industrial area because, in this city, industrial work is more. Material like rubber or plastic are primarily made in this city.

Being a voracious traveller, I have visited many beautiful cities. One of them is unique and, hence, worth discussing. The city’s name is Panckula. And I know about this city because I have visited it many times. After all, one of my relatives lives there.

The city has mainly government buildings because the various government offices are there, and people from various cities of Haryana state come over here to get their paperwork done.

It is famous for its parks and gardens. It has the famous cactus garden which is Asia’s most significant. Apart from this, there is a topiary park, and there is a Vatika garden. Moreover, it is famous for its cuisine, mainly vegetarian.

And I think the city is beautiful because, first of all, the administration has left no stone unturned to keep it spic and span. Apart from this, its layout is perfect. It is a modern city. So, the architecture is designed in such a way that it should look beautiful. And thirdly, the Shivalik Hills are visible from the city. So, a traveller who comes here seems like he is in a valley.

And there are trees all around. So lush green environment gives you a feeling that you are in the lap of nature. And the population is a little. So there is less traffic congestion on the roads. So these are the reasons which make it a beautiful city.

The third major reason for coming to cities is quality education. Numerous schools and colleges in cities provide quality education, and people come here to upgrade their skills.

5. What are the problems caused by maintaining historical cities?

The first major problem is the need for more funds. There is no denying this conviction that these places provide revenue to the government. Still, regular maintenance and upkeep require a lot of funds, and for most higher authorities, it is challenging to find sponsors.

Apart from this, some people have this uncanny knack for damaging historical structures by throwing litter or putting scratches on the walls or objects. Protecting historical monuments from such anti-social people is daunting for most higher authorities.

6. Do you think having too many tourists is positive for historical attractions?

No, having too much footfall adversely impacts the historical attractions because, with a large crowd, it is difficult to maintain such places. Moreover, it leads to problems like traffic congestion and pollution. Therefore, having a limited number of tourists visiting a site in a day is worthwhile .

7. What can we do to stop visitors from damaging historical places?

Higher authorities need to adopt stringent yardsticks to control the damage to historical places by the visitors. Firstly, harsh punishment should be for those who damage the infrastructure and throw litter here and there.

Moreover, security needs to be tight within the premises, and regular crowd monitoring through CCTV should be conducted. The cameras installed can deter prospective offenders and prevent them from indulging in unlawful activities.

Apart from that, before the tour, the dos and don’ts must be told to all the visitors so that they remain vigilant while roaming in the historical attraction.

Introduction: and Name of the city? Well, I am travel bug who loves traveling different places and I have visited numerous places but the city that I visited and I loved the most and I would love to visit again is definitely Amritsar.

For that reason, this city is of great significance to sikhs and recently I visited this place with my family. We were there to pay the obeisance and it took us around 2-3 hours as it was extremely crowded at this place but i enjoyed the views of this golden temple and we also enjoyed listening to the religious music.

What did you do there? Jalian wala bhag is a very important place to visit in Amritsar because it has great historical significance. Thousands of innocent people died here when General Dyer opened fire and people visit here to pay tribute and remember all those who died unduly. After visiting this place in the evening, we visited the Attari border.

It is actually a frontier of India and Pakistan and the retreat ceremony is extremely popular . Whosoever visit Amritsar, definitely pay visit here and enjoy this special ceremony of the army men in the evening.

Would you like to visit it again? Our principal and teachers had planned for all of us to visit the Taj Mahal on a full moon night. We were told that on the full moon night the monument looks even more glamorous and glorious, and it makes for a splendid spectacle. This added even more excitement to the previous announcement. We would have had to stay awake the whole night but so what? For such a wonderful experience, it was not a big deal.

We were asked to assemble on a Saturday afternoon at the school campus. We were instructed to carry our packed dinner-boxes and water bottles. We were strictly prohibited from buying any eatables there or littering the Taj Garden’s premises. We were warned against buying the souvenirs from the crafty hawkers. These instructions and warnings were repeated to us over and over again. First by our Principal, then by the respective teachers who were in charge of our groups into which we were divided.

We had brought consent from our parents in writing for this trip. From Delhi to Agra, we had to travel by bus, it was around a 5 hours journey. We assembled at the school campus at the given time, and were divided into groups. The teachers took charge of the respective groups, our teacher in charge asked us to stand in a queue, she called out our names from a list that she carried. The items each one of us was carrying were inspected, and then we went ahead to board the buses.

As we started to move out of the school campus, we all hailed the school with three cheers in a chorus and the journey began. After about 5 hours we were told that we were at The Taj Mahal. The full moon was shining in the sky right above us. The premises seemed like it was filled with the milky hue. We left our buses at a little distance and stepped down. Again, our teachers called out our names from the lists, and we all stood in a straight line. We followed our teacher and walked towards the monument.

After a little while, we were at the main gate of The Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal glowed in the full moonlight in its grandeur. We all felt wonderstruck by the majesty, beauty, and opulence of the dome structure. The moonlit premises added elegance to the mystique. The Taj Mahal resembled a white swan standing still in a sprawling milk lake. The fountains on the campus were bubbling and bursting along the pathway. The fountains were flanked by the green lawns on either side. It was heavily crowded. Men, women, and children were trying to find a way for themselves. There were so many foreigners looking at the monument like they were totally wonderstruck.

We had to ramble to make it to the main platform, took off our shoes at the entrance, and were up on the main platform on which stood the great monument. The four minarets stood like sentinels on the four corners. After about two hours of wandering and rejoicing around the ‘Dream in Marble’, we came down to the lawns to open our dinner packets. Thereafter, it was time to begin our return journey.

Last Sunday, I visited the Taj Mahal with my family. It was a dream come true for us to have visited the architectural marvel about which we have heard so much and had read so much in our books. We started feeling proud of our country to have this magnificent form of art.

Lately, I visited the Glacier National Park. The trip gave me immense pleasure after a long time period. This is one such area where nature has bestowed her exquisiteness to the mountains. As far as my experience is concerned, I found this place to be a naturally tranquil one. I found serenity by spending time in this place. The wilderness of the mountains simply flabbergasted me. The carved valleys and peaks were magnificent. Moreover, I had some good time hiking and riding on a boat. There were also camping services, but I was unable to avail them. Cycling was another adventurous activity I could find there. The night was bright and the million stars soothe your anxiety in no time.

I also liked the lakes and wide glaciers of the park. Out of all, I liked the mountain ranges the most as they were different from others that I have seen.

India is an amazingly beautiful country. It is bounded by the Himalayan range in the north and is covered by the Arabian Sea in the west, the Bay of Bengal in the east and the Indian Ocean in the south. I have visited many places in India. I have always been a mountain person. On that note, I visited Sikkim last winter. It was a beautiful trip of 20 days. I don’t clearly remember the exact date, but it was in May, 2019.

The weather was very chilly there. I visited the place with my family, which includes my parents and my sister and it was a beautiful experience. I have realised that you can have the most adventurous and daring trip with your friends, but it’s a different kind of fun with your family. When you are out with your parents, you might not be allowed to do daring things like you can do with your friends but you can have a safe and beautiful trip. You can always notice a change in parents’ behaviour, especially when you are on vacation. Neither do they scold their children to be disciplined nor follow the house rules. They shed off their strict self and tend to become friends and enjoy the beauty of nature along with you. I had my sister, who was my best friend too. We were always together.

Visiting a mountain region in winter is a challenge. It was extremely cold and snowy everywhere. We were visiting the place for the second time. So we didn’t go sightseeing and stayed and visited the local places which we missed. It was as if the snow-capped mountains were calling us. We visited a village and decided to spend the entire afternoon with them. The people there were so humble. They offered us food. It was the most memorable incident there.

Sikkim is one of the smallest states of India, situated in the Northeastern part. Since my childhood, I was drawn towards mountains more than I was towards the sea. Mountains are always the most peaceful and calm place one can ever be, and I think it is the most attractive part. After we returned, we relived the old memories. I loved that place. We watched the photographs that we clicked. Those are the only memories we can ever get hold of.

Although I am not a religious person, The Golden Temple has attracted me since I began to explore. I had expressed the wish of visiting the temple to my parents multiple times, but we could not plan a single trip to Amritsar due to my busy schedule. So, they decided to surprise me and fulfilled my wish by ending our Himachal Pradesh trip in Amritsar.

My parents, and rarely, some of my close friends, had been my constant travel companion and so, no one else could accompany me on one of my dream trips other than these special people of my life.

As usual, our Himachal trip was a huge success, but I was excited to go back home after the 20 days trip to celebrate my 25th birthday with my near and dear ones. Therefore, I was irked when we took a detour, which was already planned and I was unaware of. However, when we landed in Amritsar, I became ecstatic. As aforementioned, they had planned to make my birthday memorable by visiting the Golden Temple. Everything went as planned, and at the end of the day, seated by the Amrit Sarovar with my pillars by my side, brought happy tears to my eyes.

The Golden Temple or Harmandir Sahib is not only a pious place for the Sikhs but is also a symbol of brotherhood. It was first built by Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru, in 1604, while the foundation was laid by Mian Mir, a Muslim aesthetic from Lahore. It has faced defacement by various Afghan invaders and was finally rebuilt by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. This amalgamation of various cultures is respected and celebrated in the architecture and philosophy related to this monument. What I like the most about this place is that anybody, irrespective of their caste, religion, or race, is welcomed, offered food and can find solace without hindrance. For me, it is a symbol of humility, equality, and fraternity in a country that houses heterogeneous cultures and beliefs. This visit to one of my favourite places gave me the strength to fight all odds and calmed my anxieties.

we chose to visit the city of ……… because it has all the attractions. It includes landscapes, historical sites, entertainment areas, shopping centers, gaming and entertainment centers. It also offers many other health and therapeutic services.

The city has a large hospital of the Faculty of Medicine supervised by medical professors and handles all cases.

….. city is …… km from our city where we live. The ….. city can be reached through a number of means. It can be reached by plane, train or bus.

We chosen bus; the bus takes ……. hours to reach the city of ……… The bus stops in a break on the road due to the long distance between our city and the city of …….

The reason for choosing the bus to go to the city of ……. is to enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature.

On our way to the city of ……, we pass many areas of different nature. We go through mountain areas, coastal areas and agricultural areas and cross several cities and villages on our way.

If we did not need to rest, we would go to explore the city as soon as we arrived. But we needed to rest and sleep after this long travel. So we went to our hotel rooms to rest and prepare for an early start to explore the city.

On the first day, we visited the historic landmarks of the city dating back to the …… era.

We also visited the beach and enjoyed swimming, snorkeling and watching the reefs.

Last summer vacation I was able to visit a very wonderful city inside the Emirates, which is the city of Ajman. The Emirate of Ajman is the smallest in the UAE, with an area of 260 square kilometers. The Emirate of Ajman overlooks the Arab coast. I really enjoyed seeing the coast and doing some fun activities on it.

I liked very much that the temperature in the summer is moderate, unlike the temperatures in my city or other cities in the Emirates.

So I was able to walk around and enjoy several things such as the Ajman Museum, I liked its location very much and the shape of the surrounding castles and the old walls, I felt the grandeur of history and the splendor of the place.

Using descriptive adjectives is the best way to describe anyone or anything. So is a place. From such adjectives, one can get an overall idea of a place.

To effectively use descriptive adjectives for describing a place, select words that vividly convey its atmosphere, appearance, and mood. Use Vivid Visual Imagery to Describe a Place

Visual imagery can play a significant role in describing a place, no matter whether you talk or write about it. It helps you to share what you have experienced through your sense of sight. If you can use visual imagery well, you can make your audience visualize the place, even without visiting it in person.

Your vivid description of a place with visual imagery can even take someone to the place for a moment through their visualization.

Example 2: The landscape with a snowy mountain and a sun setting behind it will let you forget all the odds of your life.

Describe Places with Auditory Imagery

Like visual imagery, auditory imagery can be crucial while describing a place. It appeals to your sense of hearing. Every place has its sound. For example, suppose you were at a big car factory a few days ago. While describing the place, you can talk about the sounds of the machines to help your audience to get a good idea about the place.

Now, imagine you are sitting on a seashore in the evening. It’s usually a very calm and quiet place, except for the sounds of the wave. So if you tell someone that you were sitting at a place where there were sounds of waves, people will be able to guess where the place is.

Example 2: The sound of the waves will outdo all the other noises around the beach.

Talk about Your Feelings about the Place

Suppose you love to stay close to nature. In that case, you would love to go to places full of greenery, hills, seas, etc. such sites will give you a good vibe. But, on the other hand, if you go to a very crowded and clumsy city where everything seems deserted, you may not like it.

Example 2: I didn’t enjoy the stay here at all. The rooms are very clumsy.

Describe the Changes You Noticed Now and Then

To describe changes in a place over time, detail the differences observed in its physical features, atmosphere, or cultural aspects. Compare past and present states using descriptive language, noting alterations in architecture, environment, or social dynamics.

If you like a place, you may visit it again and again. Whenever you get some time, you go there to feel different and relaxed. However, the place you went to three years ago may not remain the same this year. So, if you describe a place you visit frequently, you can talk about the changes you notice now and then.

Example 1: I visited my hometown last month after twelve years. In my childhood, there were so many playgrounds and open fields there. But now, most playgrounds are converted to parks, while mills and factories have occupied most open places.

Example 2: Though the city was historically primarily horizontal, you will see that most places have become vertical in recent years. There are multi-storied buildings here and there.

Make Recommendations about the Place

To make recommendations about a place, evaluate its features and suitability for various interests. Suggest activities or highlights based on personal experience and advise on the best time to visit, facilities, or cultural aspects, tailoring advice to the audience’s preferences.

The following examples show some words and phrases you can use to recommend a place while describing it in English.

Former President Donald J. Trump repeated a false and outlandish claim that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, have abducted and eaten their neighbors’ pets.

Mr. Trump made the comments on Tuesday early in his first debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, shortly after Ms. Harris mocked his rallies as so filled with fictions and fringe theories that attendees leave early. Mr. Trump responded by trying to pivot back to the subject under discussion, immigration.

“A lot of towns don’t want to talk about it because they’re so embarrassed by it,” he said. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating — they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

Mr. Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, have amplified the internet rumor on the campaign trail this week. It stems from viral social media posts that have spread as Mr. Vance and others have sought to stir fears about the growing Haitian population in Springfield , though members of the community are living and working in the United States legally.

Local officials have found no evidence, credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed by Haitian residents.

When David Muir, a debate moderator, noted the lack of evidence, Mr. Trump said he had gotten his information from “the people on television saying my dog was taken and used for food.”

Ms. Harris laughed. Mr. Trump’s “extreme” statements, she said, are one of the reasons she has the endorsements of 200 Republicans.

Mr. Vance first made the claim about Haitian immigrants on Monday , saying “it’s coming to your city next.” A news release from the Trump campaign later recounted the falsehoods. Mr. Vance then appeared to backtrack on Tuesday morning in a social post, saying his office had “received many inquiries” about the false claims. But he added that “it’s possible, of course, that all of these rumors will turn out to be false.”

That has not stopped the social media platforms from being awash with memes and AI-generated images of cats in support of Mr. Trump.

Job opportunities in Springfield, a city of roughly 58,000 people between Columbus and Dayton, have attracted thousands of Haitians since the pandemic began, with city officials estimating that as many as 20,000 have arrived. By some accounts, the immigrant community has helped revitalize the town , though it has put pressure on housing, schools and hospitals.
